Beavs,

Well that really bites. I am sorry to hear that your PS failed. I don't understand why AZBox has so much trouble with their PS's.
I feel that they will work with you towards a positive solution to replace yours. They must obviously be aware that this is a problem area and they should replace it free of charge (my opinion) to save face with us who have bought their product. Even if your unit is out of warranty, I think they should still acknowledge that the problem isn't totally corrected and they should work with you. I am hoping for this on your behalf.

AZboz really should beef up its power supplies!Dont know if they have one power supply that works with all its models but since the pre plus may consume the most current from the power supply and the supply may be near its limit with the plus! burn up may just a matter of time.

thanks for the best wishes :) that's good news brent636 thanks for sharing :) i did a quick search for laptop power supplies in case but couldn't find any at digikey or astrodyne so the search continues. maybe the 12/24V combo is rare.

i think my az was upset i was making good progress in solving my dual tuner firmware problems and decided on a holiday :) (kidding)

i will probably reply and ask why they couldn't send me a supply. it seems as though they have done it for others members here not in europe. also gonna ask if they are considering using a better supplier of power products.

received reply from azbox usa:

"Dear Kevin,

We can exchange that power supply but I need the bad unit back.
If you decide to exchange in our store in Miami, there's no additional cost.

Best regards,

Azbox Team"

so i decided to try and fix the power supply myself ... nothin to lose. the case is glued together so if you're concerned about keeping it intact for warranty replacement i wouldn't recommend it. AC line 3.15A ceramic fuse was open. no sign of visible damage. no shorts detected using ohmmeter. replaced fuse with 2.5A fast blow and it seems to work now. did notice on circuit board that line and neutral wires were designated so i marked my supply case so i can get them right when i plug it in.

Kevin, pretty impressive stuff that you did, congratulations on your technical expertise. Maybe I'm not looking close enough but can't really tell where that AC line Ceramic fuse is. Good luck with the fix, doing it yourself sure saved you the hassle of returning the Power Supply to Florida, and no AZbox likely for a month or so.

Kevin,
Glad to hear you were able to get your PS fixed. Not sure if its too late or not but would you be able to take a higher resolution (and clearer picture) of exactly what you replaced? I'm sure you won't be the last person to have a PS go bad and your efforts would probably help a lot of people who find themselves in a similar position.

Kevin,

Excellent repair work! That's the way to get 'er done!

May I ask what email address you used for your contact to Opensat?

just be very careful if you remove the power supply from the case. give it at least 20 minutes from the time you unplug the power supply till the time you touch the circuit boards with your hands. some capacitors in switching power supplies like this can hold an electrical charge for a long time after the unit is unplugged. there is the potential (pun intended) for a very nasty electrical shock if you grab hold of the circuit board with both hands. gotta cover my bum with that disclaimer. you never know who's gonna google the thread and try replacing the fuse.

i am still troubleshooting this thing. i suspect one of the switching transistors is bad.

the fuse is underneath the input connector. its the black cylindrical thingy with wires coming out the ends and a rubber like coating on it in the picture. best i could do with my cheap cell phone camera.
