Prevent changing channels while recording?

I am thinking about buying Tivo or Dishnetwork DVR...

While I am recording, is their anyway to prevent my kids from changing channels? With my current VCR recordings, the kids pop in from school, and change channels on the satellite without noticing that I am recording.

It would be nice if the DVR would at least put up a message that a recording is in progress...

yep. When you try to change it it says
"recording in progress. Do you wish to return to live TV" and options of yes no cancel

You don't say what kind of receiver you have, but maybe a second one is in order?

Yes - as long as you weren't using BOTH tuners to record of course.
