Would say my 922 has never worked as solid as my old receivers that were replaced. I have been putting up with the growing pains the 922 receiver has been going through. Things have been going rather well until the other day. The unit will now completely lock up and become unresponsive after it has been idle. This requires a hard reset to get it working. It was normal for the 922 to reboot 3 or 4 times before a picture would show but now it reboot itself 7 if not more times. I am not 100% sure but I am thinking the cooling fan has gone out. Is there anything else I can do to trouble shoot before I start the process of getting this 922 replaced?

If you unplug it for 1 minute then plug it in and do not hear the cooling fan run? replace it,just the 7 reboots or more should warrant a replacement.Good Luck!
I can not figure what my 922 is doing. Every morning since the problem started, the receiver would be completely locked up requiring a reset / power unplug. Several reboots attempts as many as 7 times before getting a picture. Some times no picture would be displayed but rather the screensaver after it rebooted. The next phase was as if the receiver was too busy doing something else it couldn't perform any operation without a huge delay. i.e. press the menu button and 2 minutes later only part of the screen would display. Change the channel and 45 seconds later it would. Remember the problems only occurred each morning after the 922 had been off / idle all night. After the reset, I could watch T.V. all day long with no problems. It has been almost a week since these problems started. This morning I turn on the 922 and it seems to be working. I did not have to press the reset button to be able to watch T.V. or change the channels. Anyone have a clue what is going on with my 922 ?

to Sat Guys! I have noticed for the last two weeks that I did have to reset my receiver twice due to a freeze on time and a black screen with banner the second time. I have never had to reset my receiver before this. The receiver did take a long time to reboot which is not uncommon on the 922 but it would reboot like 5 or 6 times before it reset properly. It has been working fine so far this week but please let me know if you have any additional problems and if you would like to send me your account information, I can report the issue to our engineers.

How is your 922 hooked up to your HDTV?.
Do you have the 922 connected to a surge suppressor?.
How are you connected to the Internet? Dish Home Plug? Wireless? Hard Wire(ethernet cable)?.
Press Menu twice,select the Diagnostics Tile, select Counters,tell us what software your running?.
Whlie still in Counters tell us what your temperatures are? High Temp?,Average Temp?,Low Temp?.
Select System Information Tile,everything Green and Good there?.

Being new to the 922 myself I still in the testing stage with mine,that said I have noticed the 922(mine) runs warmer without the MT2 module in the 120s,with the module mine varies between the 110s to the 120s depending on the amount of recordings it's doing.Of course it also depends where it's placed mine is in an entertainment center with no additional cooling.What I look for when asking for temperatures is to make sure the receiver is not getting up in the 140s(which could mean the cooling fan is out or not working correctly) and then that could also cause heat related reboots and remote commands to slow down and hesitate.

The operational average temperature is 113 degrees with a low of 102 and a high of 131. I've noticed recording, watching recordings while recording, and pip seems to influence the fan. Also having the EHD plugged in seems to heat it up (fan running), just observations no validation.
I'll be moving on to the Hopper when it becomes available, more beta entertainment.

Your Welcome,mine is just observations also,interesting though about the noisy fan as I can barely hear mine, but I have never used a EHD.If you don't have the MT2 installed maybe that would cause the fan to be more noisy because without the MT2 module inside it would seem there is more air space to pull air from?,don't know just alot of "what ifs".Wish you Luck with the Hopper I will probably convert in a couple of years,so that's why I invested in my 922/wMT2 now because of the new profile in it.
Do you have a surge suppressor you can plug it into?.You could try that and see how many times it resets,also make sure when it's not using it to turn it off so it can perform guide updates and dvr house keeping tasks.
Correct and voltage surges can cause it also.To elaborate on this I will tell you I have all TV/Audio/Video electronics,VIP922/wMT2,HDTV,computer,DSL modem,wireless router,printer,blurayplayer,HDTV soundbar,and wireless phones all plugged into muitlple outlet surge suppressor bars.The only time in my thoughts you would not want it(the 922) plugged into a surge suppressor is if your trying to access the internet through the electric wires in the home,think it's called DISH Home Plug,or DISH Comm can't remember but it does not matter as I would not use that setup anyways.
I grew up during the time that sellers came out with a great little product,a TV antenna you plug into the wall using the electric wires in the home as a TV antenna.The only bad part is that if a resistor?(I believe) went bad the electricity would go up the antenna wire and blow up the TV.
Anyways I highly recommend surge suppressors no matter if you think you don't have voltage surges.Good Luck!

I remember that little jewel. My father bought one. Beige, a little larger than a hockey puck, IIRC. I think several versions were on the market. It didn't work, we went back to rabbit ears with the supplemental organic extension (me, holding one of the two antenna poles
