Hi,

I've been doing some reading and asking and I take it there is not a lot of english speaking broadcasts among the channels in the international packages, not even any SAP-english audios.

So my questions are...

1.What english speaking(other than TV Japan which I know about) broadcasts,SAPs are out there in the packages made available by dish??? I am talking about the International Packages themslves not the korean and Chinese channels avaiable in the regular stuff.

2.Who has any of these packages and what do they think of them??? Language Barrier or not,What's Good???

I'm sorry about the questioning,it's just as I think I said in a previous post,I wanted to maaayybe get one or two(perhaps the russian or the arabic) for the uniqueness but I don't want to break the bank and I want to get my money's worth.

Thanks,

I have viewed many of the free international previews over many years on Dish, and, as a rule, the internationals are not for English speakers. The content is almost always exclusively in the native language. So, no, there simply isn't support for those who only speak English.

However, there are two exceptions that I know of:

Euronews (at $1.50 per month--included free with the purchase of one of the several international "packs") has an all English language feed (channel 901 at 148 degrees). It is said to be the most watched news headline service in all of Europe. It is not people sitting at a desk. It is narration of newscopy over video. It pretty much repeats every half-hour. I happen to like it for what it is: a quick rundown of headlines in Europe. Euronews is available only at the internatioal orbital locations--not at 110 or 119. And regardless of what the CSR's say, Euronews is available at the 148 degree location. That is where I receive it.

Also, French TV5 provides English subtitles on virtually all the movies aired, and on several fiction based TV shows, while a good many TV shows do not have English subtitles. There is a lot of news on TV5, however, the only news program that has English subtitles is the daily half-hour France2 news that is designed for international broadcast (at 3PM Pacific Time). There is a lot of French domestic news, news of Europe and a good amount of international coverage. They have done many stories about the US, as well. It is an extremely good newscast that is superior to any US newscasts regarding coverage of international events. One can learn a lot about the French and French culture and attitudes on this channel. Having watched the channel for a few years now, I completely understand why the French have moved away from Socialism and voted for Sarkozy (an admierer of US capitalism and the UK style of capitalism called "Blairism" ) as their new president. The English subtitles for the newscast were no longer going to be available, but the subtitlers appealed to viewers and France2 was flooded with emails, so, for now, the subtitles are safe. I believe TV5 is unique in providing the amount of subtitles it does.

TV5 is about $9.99 per month, and is commercial free. All movies shown are French and are often good with some well-known French actors who have appears in many US movies. The quality of the programming is high, as are the technical standards. It is good programming that looks very good on your TV. One favorite show of mine was History of the Chateaus. It was all in French, but the visuals of the splendor of these old French castles was worth watching.

I hope that gave you some idea as to what is available for English speakers on Dish Internationals.
