Hi everyone,
I live in Chicago as you all know by now and can not get the 119. My building has RCN but no HD yet. They said they are getting it soon. One guy posted on AVS forums that he used his cable cord from the wall and plugged it into a receiver and the HD worked. Can I plug my cable cord into my directv hd box? Would this work?

Very doubtful.

Cable uses QAM modulation, and often encrypts signals.
All OTA HD tuners use 8VSB modulation. The two are not compatible.

Furthermore if your building has RCN but no HD yet, why would you expect them to be giving you a signal?

Unless your building secretly has an antenna, fuggedaboutit.
You could always try it, though. Can't hurt anything.

You could always get an indoor OTA HD antenna and get, at the very least, your local channels.
