Old Dish 1000 Antenna Gain?

Does anyone know the gain of the old Dish 1000 antenna? This is the antenna that came out in ~2005 for 110, 119, 129 using 1 dual and 1 single LNBF.

I am using it for 61.5 only (1 LNBF). I use the single rectangle to D-Tube adapter DISHSTORE.NET used to sell so the LNBF eye is in the center of the dish.

Any info would be great...

Thanks !

The 61.5 changes were not good to me spotbeam wise. The old Green Bay, WI spotbeam had Green Bay and South Bend on it. Chicagoland was right in the middle. I had more signal than I knew what to do with (mid to high 80's) using a Dish 1000, single LNBF, and single rectangle to D-Tube adapter DISHSTORE.NET used to sell.

After the 61.5 changes the Green Bay locals are now on Echo 16 61.5 transponder 29, spot 31. It looks like spot 31 is centered around Ironwood, MI.

Satbeams.com says I should have a signal level of 50.3 dB on 61.5 tp 29 s 31 at my location.

For comparision it says I should have a signal level of 54.2 dB on 61.5 tp 22 s 8 (Milwaukee) at my location.

On my VIP 211 I am getting a signal level of 41 on 61.5 tp 22 s 8 (Milwaukee).

When I go to 61.5 tp 29 the status goes from "Unlocked" to "Locked" but I do not get any signal level (stays at 0).

I was wondering if switching out my old Dish 1000 dish antenna for a Winegard 60cm D-Tube antenna will get me enough signal to lock in 61.5 tp 29 s 31 reliably? The Winegard 60cm says it's gain is 36.6 dB.

If I have to I can go up to the Winegard 76 cm (38.7 dB gain).

Any info would be great...

Thanks !

You can calculate it here. Use a antenna offset of ~22.6 degrees which most of the offset antennas use and the vertical diameter minus a 1/2 inch or so (~23.8 -0.5 =23.3 inches) and you should get something relatively close. http://www.satellite-calculations.com/

Using the D1000 reflector will probably not get you any stronger signal with one lnb than using a D300 reflector, because the D1000 reflector is de-focused in the horizonal plane to work with 3 lnb's and the D300 is specifically designed to work wit one lnb.

Your best bet for getting a stronger signal to a single lnb is to buy a larger reflector single focus dish, like a 30" Channel Master that has both a larger reflector and all of it is focused at one spot.

Your 1000 has an effective diameter of about 23 inches ( .58 Meter). The change in signal strength is proportional to the ratio of the antenna diameters squared when changing antenna diameter. So, moving from a dish 1000 to a 0.76 Meter will increase absolute signal strength by a factor of 1.7. Moving to a 1 meter diameter antenna would triple your signal strength. Regarding dbw, each time you double signal strength you will increase dbw by 3. The signal is probably just below the detection level of your receiver if it is locking but not showing a digital value. The rule of thumb is "bigger is better".
