Hi... I am a convert from DIrectTV and am wondering if there are any remote control tips and tricks available? With DirectTV, I could program in "secret codes" to change the menu bar, add a clock to the screen, utilize 30-second skip (which I don't need with Dish), etc.

Are there similar codes for Dish Network remotes?

I have a VIP622....

Thanks!

umm, there is way you can control volume on your surround sound system, instead of tv volume, look at 622 manual there is section on it.

Not really secret, but frequently overlooked, while in the guide...

- DVR skip buttons will move ahead/back a full day
- enter a number followed by RtArrow to jump that many hours
- press GUIDE repeatedly to cycle through pre-set and custom lists

Press DVR twice to go almost directly to the DVR list. Once there, PIP SWAP will toggle between your most recent sort modes.

So...anyways to increase or expand remote uhf reception? Right now I have 2 kid bedrooms with basic cable. I'm thinking of eliminating them by having 2 622's in the living room and my bedroom, and having each sd feed from the 622 going to a kid's room, but the remotes suck so bad for me through walls. My room is just on the other side of the wall from where the 622 currently is using the sd feed, and I constantly have to move it around and work with it to get controlling the receiver to work. Any after market upgrades to receiver antenna or anything I might not be aware of?

There's a trick to solve this one using the remote but I can't remember it right now. I solved it by combining the TV2 output and the UHF antenna with a regular splitter and then I use another splitter at the other end. One output goes to the TV and the other one to the UHF antenna.

Sweet man! I never thought of doing that with a splitter. Can it be any old splitters, or does it have to be those fancy cable one side, satellite on the other types? The link doesn't specifiy, so I'm guessing any. I'll definitely have to do that!

Edit: Nevermind, have more research I see it does work with regular splitters. I can't wait to go home and play with it now!

I added a varible gain amplifier. Had to turn it down it worked from 6 houses away.

Some walls here are metal lathe, that causes remote troubles.

lock all ypour receivers to prevent others from buying PPVs, espically porn..$$$$:(

go ahead and get a pigtail for ur uhf ant on the back of ur reciever. if your reciever is in a cabinet, it really limits the uhf remote. you an extension cable to mount the antanea high in the open..

on the new vip remotes, you can put into limited mode by holding the tv butten down, pressing page up, then #. and use page down to take off. this way you wont have to renter the whole code using the 1 at the end of the code, or if u just want to add it to a tv months later due to kids or something you dont have to look up the code.
