I was cruising the Garage Sales this morning, for a small monitor to use while tuning my BUD(s). Found a big sale of storage unit, abandon, stuff. Not much of interest until I spotted 3 partial spools of cable. Yes!!:D RG-6/U type CL3 (or something like that), I could hardly read the rest but it was 75c (UL) or CATV-SCA CNG FTA etc...

I picked up the two spools with the most, the third only had a few dozen feet left on it. I got the two for 8 bucks and I just calculated there is over 400ft total. That's 2 cents a foot by my math.

Also on another topic, you know those connector tools that you see the cable installers use and that sell for about $40 at Home Depot. I bought one and some of their connectors. Before I had a chance to use it, I was at H/F for something else and found that they had exact 'knock offs'. They were less than $20 and their connectorw were a few bucks for a package of 10. I compaired the compression tool with the Home Depot one and couldn't see any difference. You can guess which one I took back.. I never looked but I'll bet the H/D one was made in China or India. The connectors work well but don't have a weather boot and I plan to buy some from one of the online vendors. I put dielectric grease on all of mine anyway.

Steve;)

Super luck with the RG6 cable !

You found the clone tool where?
Perhaps: Harbor Frieght?
Yea, I knew they had connectors there, but never paid much attention to the tool or price.
Thanks for reminding me! - :up

But next time, don't make us read your mind! - - :D

PS: I searched the Harbor Freight web site, and didn't see the crimper tool listed.

RG-6 Coaxial Crimper

It is a Model 95862 and here is the link:
- Harbor Freight Tools - Quality Tools at the Lowest Prices
(not my comment, just appeared when I pasted this Hyper Link)

The price is $16.99 list and if your cheap wait around a couple weeks and it will be on sale for something less.

They also sell a coax cable stripper similar to H/D but it is difficult to use and I don't know how that compares to the H/D one.

It sure beats the old F connector crimps. And looks professional.

I got mine at their retail outlet, here in Lacy WA

Steve :D

I'll go take a look at the tool. Thanks a bunch.
Normally, I use one a buddy has. Think his was about $75.

Here is the cable stripper at Harbor Freight.
Looks like one I got at Radio Shack on close-out, about a year ago.
Think I paid $3, but who knows?

That cable stripper is different than the one I got at HF last March. Looks more like the one the D**h installer used since it has that little thumb ring on the end. The one I got was a combination stripper and they tried to incorporate too mean features that I don't/won't use.
I'll get one of those if I see one tomorrow when I'm at HF

Thanks.

Steve
