I just had DirectTV installed at my house with 2 Boxes (1 HD DVR and 1 Standard) and a new dish with SWiM. My house is prewired every room with RG6 rated for 2Ghz.

Question:
The Installer told me i should replace all the 2Ghz RG6 with 3Ghz RG6, do you think i'll see a difference? If it will make a difference i dont mind doing it.

What do you think?

Thanks Todd:)

It's probably OK and just fine for "today" - but if your long term interest is really for the long term, I'd replace it when it is convenient.

Nothing is worse than having new features come out and your wire can't handle it.

But if you are looking at less than 3 years, I would not bother.

SWM only uses up to 1.8GHz so that's no problem. Regular DirecTV uses up to 2.15GHz but even then your 2GHz-labelled cable should be no problem, unless you were using very long cable runs.
Just because a cable is labelled 2GHz does not mean it stops working when the frequency is higher. First, it might only have been tested to 2Ghz but works just the same at 3Ghz as another cable that is labelled "3Ghz". Second, even if it does not perform as well the only difference would be SLIGHTLY greater attenuation at the higher frequencies, nothing to worry about unless you are running 150ft of cable.

Actually, "Sweep to 3 GHz" does not constituted better loss figure at the frequency !
It is marketing plot, beware if a price is high then "2 GHz" type !

I've got both 3Ghz cable and 2Ghz cable in my setups and there isnt a difference that I've seen :)

marketing ploy? really? dang. I know where I get my cable its the same price for both.

I'm not picking on you. Chill.
I guess I cant comment to the OP then huh?

I was stating a fact that where I get my cable from its the same price for both 2Ghz & 3Ghz so I was making a comment that about the marketing ploy. I guess I forgot the ;)
