Does anyone know why I would get a worse picture quality with RGB cables than I got with composite cables on DirecTV standard definition programming?

I though SD picture quality was bad on my big screen with the composites but, the components are even fuzzier.

I would assume since component isn't designed for the lower resolution 480i signals it can't improve on resolution that isn't there, or maybe badly shielded cables. Use both at the same time for the best picture, S-video for 480i and component for 480p and up.

Not sure, it may be just amplifying the noise and artifacts etc...
you can have good cables but it's only going to be as good as the source.

Thanks for the reply.

The high definition looks great with the component cables but sd is almost unwatchable.

I guess I'll have to go back to the composite cables.

SD is not "designed" to be output via the component. Typically that is for 480p and up. Setup your receiver to output SD on the s-video out and the HD on the component. Most of the better receivers allow for the simultaneous output method.

Thanks charper1,

My receiver is a samsung 160, not sure if it will do it but if it will, maybe I can figure it out.

Thanks for the input, I appreciate it.
