RV system set up

It's easy to believe there are folks who like D* more and ones who like E* more but a statement like "the only way to go" sounds silly on the face of it.

If he didn't already tell you, ask him why. Then bring those comments here and folks will give you some straight skinny.

I camp with Dish and I'm sure it's the best. But that's just me.

Steve
A long time desert rat.
Thanks...........I'll be at the campground some next week and try to hook up with him.......like I said, I never had problems until this summer!
I'm sure this campgound is on a different spotbeam than my homebase.

What problems are you having? You didn't say.

Yes, it was disconnected for a couple of weeks. It's in a room where we don't watch TV to much, so I didn't connect it back up right away.

I was remodeling, ya that's sounds good, remodeling.

Thanks guys!!

All you should really need to do is connect it back to the dish and it should automatically receive the reauthorization within a day or so without calling Dish.
The new smartcard/chips are designed to lose authorization if disconnected from the dish, so Dish is always cycling the authorization command for all activated receivers, it just takes awhile to get it unless you call for a re-hit.

We are new to E* and thinking about getting a cabin at the lake. I'll have to remember all of this if we get one so I can just buy a dish and bring my receiver with me.

Before HD became the the nearly universal standard for all the decent channels, Dish had a great solution for lake cabins: PocketDish. It plugs into your 622/722 and downloads hour long shows in a few minutes. And you just clicked all you wanted copied to the PD and walked away. Then when you got to the cabin you had a handy 7" TV with 20+ hours of all the stuff you want to watch. And if you wanted a bigger screen the PD has a video out so it works like a DVD player.

But just now that dream has been destroyed because PDs can't record HD programs and 622/722s can't convert HD programs to SD for transfer to PDs.

They have announced that there will be new PocketDish models in time for Christmas and it is assumed they will deal with HD.

In the mean time you can still bring the kids shows and all your porn since they are not HD yet.

Wish you didn't have to buy yet another device to do this. I already have an iPod and would rather be able to use it.

I'd say in my future, I would be better off to bring the receiver and have another dish at the lake (assuming we get a lake house someday) if we are there for an extended period. Right now we camp and I just bring a portable DVD player and maybe use it to watch a DVD. When I camp, I like the downtime and don't need it normally.

Your preaching to the choir, brother. I don't own the video version of the ipod so the PD was my first choice and I like the bigger screen but other than that I'm with you.

Unfortunately both my wife and I become addicted to falling asleep with the TV on so I always have my special dish receiver in my camping trailer powered my two banks of golfcart batteries and charged by solar panels during the day.

One side benefit of the second receiver is having it for visiting guests so they stop getting pissed because my DVR timers go off while they are watching TV.

Steve:
We take our bedroom receiver (just like in years past) and after about 2 days it only gives a few channels(8to10) out of 100 or so...this happened twice.
Another time I left it hooked up all week while we were gone and the next weekend it would not authorize at all.......had to have it reflashed at home and answer ???? over the phone. I took other peoples advice and didn't tell them it was in a RV.
I didn't know about this site or I would have been asking questions here....

Funny but I did it just the opposite way. I got a RV waiver and I pay 5 bucks and I had do swear never to take it out of the RV.

Go to the nearest 7-11, disguise your voice and call and ask if they still have RV waivers. With that you used to be able to get LA or Denver or YNC network locals since travelin' folk often drive out of the transponder spot beam for their own locals.

Or maybe somebody here knows if the RV waiver program is still taking applications. The monthy price is five bucks either way.

Here is a nice little portable dish mount someone posted here a while back, I built one myself, only glued part of it, breaks down real small to fit in the trailer when I'm not using it

Note the wing nuts on the dish, very helpful

I didn't make my dishes arm fold over or put levelers on the mount myself, but it's a good idea if you move it a lot

That's really neat.......I would never thought the dish would work upside down.
I made up a adapter to mount my dish on the ladder of my camper.

I remember seeing a thread in the installer zone here that will allow you to do a rehit to the receiver without talking to a human.

I just bring my receiver along with me I live in Illinois and have traveled deep in Wisconsin and Indiana without a problem I get the usual nag screen about the fee for without a phone line connected but as soon as I get home I plug it back in
never received a fee or problems

Where can I get the same setup as you? I have an 06 Rockwood pop up and want to bring my home reciever with me camping but need to know where a good place to purchase the rest of the equipment would be. We always camp within an hour away. At home I have a dvr 522. Any help is appreciated. No HD required.

Thanks,
Leo
