I am in the market for a new 55" TV. As some of you know my LG OLED is full of burn-in so I am thinking of switching to LED or QLED. Can any fellow SatGuy members share with me your opinion of the Samsung QLED TVs compared to LED TVs? Thanks for any help.

I nearly bought QLED. But I went with the Sony 65” 900 series. Quite happy, except for the Samba snooping. But you’ll get that with almost any TV today.

Read reviews on the Internet. Have a salt lick handy.

Go in and turn Samba off ...
I was able to on my A8F, I would imagine you can on yours as well.

What is Samba?
It's not the SMB clone for Linux, it's a usage tracking service that Sony uses on their SmartTVs. I don't use it and I haven't noticed any functional difference in how my Sony Bravia functions.

From Sony's Samba FAQ:
What is Samba?
Samba TV® is a service name of a third-party company, Free Stream Media Corp. (not Sony). Sony Visual Products Inc. and Free Stream Media have collaborated to offer interactive TV features and services with certain BRAVIA™ televisions.

Samba TV offers the following applications:
  • Samba Interactive TV, an application included with the firmware of certain BRAVIA televisions.
  • Hotlist, an application available on certain BRAVIA televisions.
  • Spotlight by Samba TV, for mobile devices (smartphones or tablets).
    • Spotlight Mobile for iOS™ mobile devices
    • Spotlight for Android™ mobile devices

By detecting what you watch, from examining screenshots, they can better target advertising.

I wonder what would happen if I bought a porno movie and played it on a loop all day while I was at work.

QLEDS have close to OLED blacks from the reviews I've read. Better HDR brightness, no burn in issues, so don't think you can go wrong. Samsung's GUI Smart Hub is underwhelming but many use other streaming devices so not a big deal.

I honestly can't imagine wanting anything brighter than the HDR on my OLED. It is almost too much in a dark/dim room and is great in a light room.
Imagine something even brighter without doing permanent damage to the TV. LG (and others who use their panels) claims great nits numbers for their panels but we now know that those numbers come at a very high cost.

I've had my 58" HD Sammy plasma for 11 years now and no problems...
Perhaps not obviously, I'm talking about TVs manufactured in the last couple of years (which counts for a whole lot more than anything they've done in the previous 20). Such is not to say that each brand doesn't have some lemons in the closet and that some of the problems may be issues with documentation but what constitutes good has changed in the rush to get new products out the door to buyers who have little reason to seek out UHD TVs.

I think QLED is a marketing campaign for Samsung. I was looking at a few last week and the OLED has a nicer picture but Burn in is a issue. We decided on a 75 inch Sony Bravo X900F . The picture is amazing.

I don't think the Qled is a gimmick nor do professional reviewers. Here is probably the biggest RTINGS, but there are others. I would do my own research, I came close to getting the Q9 over the LGC8.
