Hello all,
2 days ago I switched from Comcast to Dish. Install went smooth and since I helped with the install the guy gave me 15 bucks off the HDMI cable so I got it for 50 bucks (still a little steep compared to monoprice.com but not bad). He mated the new dish (a 1000.2) on the old 500 base that was already installed on the house. So far my reception (HD and SD) doesnt seem as "crisp" as I expected. Also, on the music stations I hear what sounds like video switching interference. Checking signal strength on my system I noticed satellite 129, which I believe is the HD satellite, only reports about 50-55% for all transponders. I live in Colorado and was just wondering if these numbers are normal, or if I should try re-aligning the dish?

Thanks,
Jeff

You should be getting much much better signals on the 129 sat. Call Dish and get them to come out again and realign it. At least in the 80s & 90s on the 129 sat. The whole reason why the dish 1000.2 was created much bigger than the origional dish 1000, was to do just that :get a better signal on the 129 sat and to get just as good signal on the 110/119 sats as well.

Here are some numbers I got this morning from satellite 129 from my dish 1000.2:

TP1 53
TP2 51
TP4 62
TP5 64
TP6 50
TP7 55
TP8 58
TP9 63
TP10 64
TP11 54
TP12 61
TP13 63

TP21 63
TP22 52
TP23 56
TP27 55
TP30 76
TP31 84
TP32 63

The installer said anything above 50% on SAT 129 was good because of the MPEG-4 characterisitics. Although I have heard you can lose lock from 40-50%. Are the numbers posted above typical in Colorado being 129 is in southernly orbit?

Thanks,
Jeff

I replaced my 1000 with a Dish 500 dedicated for 129, these numbers are with overcast sky in SE NM with a 622...

Those numbers look much better than mine. Unfortunately, I only have room for one dish at this location. So can I assume these low numbers are to be expected from satellite 129 on the dish 1000.2 in order to keep a good signal from the other two SD satellites - given my location in Colorado?

Thanks,
Jeff

When I first installed the 1000(about a year ago) I left it dedicated to 129 and kept my 500 for 110/119 and had numbers like yours... I would think with the `1000.2 your numbers would be higher...I would peak for 129 keeping 110/119 with reasonable numbers myself.

Here are the numbers on my Dish 500 single peaked on 129 at 1130 AM today.
1 60
2 64
3 83
4 72
5 60
6 63
7 79

I saw that post earlier which prompted my question on mine being so low. Doesn't it depend largely on location though? I would like to see some results of someone in the Colorado area. Nevertheless, I plan on going out and doing some tweeking on my own today to try and get a better signal. It was so cold here when the installer was setting my dish up that he didn't spend very much time.

Well, I was only able to gain about 5%. SAT129 TP2 (my HD locals) are up from 51 to 57 about the same for all the other TP on 129. Hopefully that is enough to avoid signal fade during the Colorado Blizzards!

Jeff

Tried watching several Movies on VOOM [129] Channels yesterday BUT could NOT because I kept losing the signal here in Beaverton, Oregon............BUT.............please, tell us again how crappy Comcast reliability is again, and JACK up OUR prices some more!
