So I'm really new at this and am trying to get a sat installed at my new apartment and have a question. I got a place that faces Southeast and can view the right compass direction in order to get signal but the problem is that the only exterior spot I can use to get signal has a tree blocking clear line of sight.

Here comes the question:

I have a screened in porch with a fiberglass screen on it that has perfect line of sight on the satellites. (Dish network if that matters). Since the screen itself isn't metal...would I be able to get signal through it? I understand that the signal quality wouldn't be incredibly strong but all I'm looking for is a clear picture. Any thoughts?

Keep in mind that if your on say a top floor and have any type of roof overhang you might have problems getting a signal using the 5LNB dish. Beyond this advice if you have the proper view (ie Tampa Bay needs a southeastern view of the sky) you should be fine. Also in the Tampa Bay area I believe one or more of the new HD satellites are much lower in orbit so the angle of the signal might need to be more precise.

Don't you mean southwestern view for Tampa?

None of the satellites used by Dish or Direct are broadcasting from a lower orbit. The orbital slot they are broadcasting from may appear lower on the horizon relative to where you are, but they are all parked the same distance from the Earth.
