Heys guys...................I was just wondering what the size and/or weight limit would be for a dish to still work effectively with a HH motor such as the SG2100. I moved my dish to a permenant structure now and it works very nicely, but I do have a little bit more tree interference now on the sats east of AMC 3 at 87 deg. I was scanning everything from 58 deg to 123 deg quite nicely but I wanted better reception on 123 so hence the move. Right now I have a 33" Fortec (alleged) with a SG2100 and Invacom SNH-031. Why do they call a dish 33" when it's not. Pet peave #2649. Anyway, thanks for the input in advance. I want to get this system honned in as good as possible as I am now going to try the "C Band on a small dish experiment " also.

:D :D :D

It's all to do with the metric system, whatever it is in centimeters they round up to the nearest inch.
The SG2100 swings my Fortec 120cm (47.2440945 inches) dish without breaking a sweat.
Anything bigger than a 47.2440945" dish isn't recommended although the fiberglass dishes may be heavier.

That sounds encouraging ..... are there any issues when it gets colder out ???? I live in Manitoba !!!!

By the way, thanks for the quick response.

It depends where you live. If you live in an area with winds and you move your dish a lot in a windy day, it may affect in a long run. Hey this isn't suppose to last forever.

I've only had the Fortec for a month, I had a Winegard 76cm (29.9212598") dish on the SG2100 for over a year.
Although we don't get bad winters here in VA I don't see any problem using the motor in the cold, you may wanna make sure the co-ax fittings are dry and sealed to stop any water ingress which will expand when it turns to ice and could ruin your whole day.

If you look at the DMSI site there's a spares page with a picture of the gearing, it looks like its made of steel and can take a fair amount of abuse.

Cascade ... If you don't mind me asking .... Where did you pick up the bigger Fortec dish and what should I be looking at for a price (ballpark) ???

Yep 33" sounds weird for Fortec. That would be 83.82cm but should be either a:
65cm / 25.59in (aka 26")
80cm / 31.49in (aka 31")
90cm / 35.43in (aka 36")

I didn't convert their other sizes, but they offer these offset sizes:
35cm
45cm
65cm
80cm
90cm
100cm
120cm
150cm

Exactly my point ..... I was just looking at dishes on eBay and the listing says " Fortec 33 in 80 cm". Thats a difference of an inch and half. Doesn't sound like much to us guys, but ask any gal .... an inch and a half can make a world of a difference.

I know it doesn't get as cold in MN as it does in Manitoba, but my motor has been working for 2 winters now (including the -30F mornings) :)

I think the 33" in the ebay ads comes from the height of the dish. Fortec 'rates' it by the width. The ebay seller says 33 sounds bigger than 31.5 on a 31.5x33 dish.

Another interesting tidbit... I heard that on the Channelmaster 1.2M dish the 1.2M refers to the surface area of the dish.
