Sign up now and upgrade later?

I want to sign up for D* now and plan to buy an HDTV later this summer. Will I be able to upgrade then to HD with no problems?

What I want to get an idea of is what it's going to cost me to upgrade to HD-DVR when I do get the HDTV later this summer. I don't want to hear I am locked into a contract for X years and can't upgrade at all.
