West Michigan
I am in West Michigan in the Grand Rapids Metro area. I re-aligned my slimline dish tonight to get better signal on the 103(b) satellite where I was only getting 64-74%. I found that the mast which is supposed to be exactly 90 degrees for where I live, was mounted way off. The bad thing about that is, since it is bolted into my roof, there is no way to adjust the mast. So I knew going into re-aligning my dish that what directv says my azimuth, elevation and tilt should be will all be off a couple of degrees because the mast was mounted off.

I was able to get better readings on the 103(b), and wanted to compare with others on all the satellites. I appreciate the help from anyone willing to take the time to post what they have and let me know if I am good with what I have.

Here are mine:

101:
1-8: 92,89,91,0,88,96,83,95
9-16: 86,89,91,47,87,96,82,98
17-24: 74,100,77,4086,96,86,96
25-32: 76,100,77,87,85,96,81,97

110:
1-8: N/A,N/A,N/A,N/A,N/A,N/A,N/A,89
9-16: N/A,91,N/A,89,N/A,N/A,N/A,N/A
All the rest on 17-32 are N/A

119:
1-21 are all N/A then 95,0,95
25-32: 100,95,5,98,96,0,97

99(b):
1-8: 0,69,0,62,0,80,N/A,N/A
9-32 are all N/A

103(a):
1-8: 51,0,49,67,47,74,N/A,N/A
The rest are all N/A except for 17 which is 0.

103(b):

1-8: 79,84,80,83,79,83,79,83
9-16: 77,82,79,85,77,83,N/A,N/A
17-24: 82,N/A,N/A,N/A,N/A,86,N/A,N/a
25-32 all are N/A

You'll live with those signals, but will lose out quick in rain.

Do you know what transponder the GR locals are on 99 or 103a? May want to keep trying to peak a little better on that transponer which may help the 103b too.

I'm east of Lansing at get 90+ on most everything. On 103a the 4th and 6th transponder are Detroit locals, FYI.

I am gonna call D* I can already see I am gonna have troubles, and you say his will be bad in the rain, that explains why mine goes out when it sprinkles..

I pay too much money per month for low signal levels in the 70's, that should just not be acceptable from D*

Here is what I'm looking at..

101 -
77.79.77.95.79.95.77.88
78.80.79.98.80.95.78.91
77.57.78.97.79.84.74.93
79.95.76.00.82.84.77.95

110-
TP #8 = 84
#10 = 87
#12 = 76 all others are N/A

119 -
#22 - 96
#23 - 0
#24 = 95
25-32 all in the upper 90's

99B all 0's

103(a)
TP 4 and 6 are in the 50's and 17 is at 0
This explains alot if my locals are on this transponder

103(b)

46.33.47.36.43.33.43.37
47.39.47.37.47.35.na.na
47.na.na.na.na.34.na.na.
32. then the rest are na

Can anyone tell me if these numbers mean I should call dish and have them come out? I've no clue really how to adjust this stuff myself, and I know when it rains a little I lose signal?

Thanks

I would say so. I know I am going to call D* tomorrow to have a re-alignment.

Either that, or I am going to pole mount it in my yard myself. I am going to re-shingle my roof next year and wold like to take the dish off of my roof anyway.

Great idea Joe, provided it can be in a spot out of the way of your other activities.
I did the same thing , placing it next to the house (supported it to the house) dish is just above the roof line.

PM me if you need any ideas !

Detfan,

I would definatly call and have them peak your dish, you may want to wait till we start seeing some of the new channels though, this way you will know it's done correctly. Currently they have no tools to read the 99 and 103, so they peak the current sats.

I just called and got a wednesday morning tech visit..whoever that was that said my local HD's are on 103a was correct, and those the levels that are in the 50's constantly..

So this should be fixed for me in a few days.

There is a million threads on this board, you had to pick these two to bother you?
Please, DONT READ IT!!!!

Post an update on your signals when you are re-aligned!! :)

How many different threads do we need for this? Can someone merge this thread please with one of the others?

This thread is simply for signals readings on all sats... not just the 103(b).
I see no need to close it, if it bothers you, don't read it! I mean that kindly! :)

Hey Joe,
Update for you, well a mini update..
I went up top, and had some help from the house, and nudged the dish upward about a half inch to an inch, by just applying pressure to it from underneath it.

Well my 103A, and B all went up into the 80's just like that..Did the same on the sats that are getting a decent signal and they sky rocketed as well..

I left it at that, because I am not going to losen things up and move stuff, not my cup of tea, and i have a call anyway.

I just hope they dont send the same guy out they sent when I upgraded..I get tired of his lazy attitude, and work habits..Time will I tell I guess..This is the same guy that checked it last time he was here ,and said the dish looked ok to him..Seems to me the install was not very good if i can move it that easy and raise the signal level.

Detfan,

I did the same thing last night. I messed with my dish for about an hour. O found that those sats were not effected much by the azimuth, or tilt, but when I moved my elevation up a few degrees I shot up into the low 80's to 90's on the 103(b)

Well Joe, the guy got here, and within a few seconds he called me in back and told me what the problem was before touching a thing or getting on a ladder. he saw the support was just not gonna work for it as soon as he walked in back, my signal levels are not sky high..

The original installer put a small support arm in the front of the poll, but it, he said was really the only arm doing all the owkr, because the longer arm put up there for support was put so high up on the poll that any kind of wind or rain would screw it up..In tech terms I had no idea what he said, but I understood what he was talking about, so now I have the proper support up there..

I'm getting all n/as on 103(a) and when i go to signal meter I can't move off transponder 0, could someone explain why this would be?

Hi guys,
First time poster to the forum here. I think I'm having some of the same issues and I want to confirm my line of thought. I live just to the SW of St.Louis and have a slimline dish. I get signal strenghs from the high 80s to the high 90s on 101, 110, and 119. However on 103a I only get high 60s to mid 80s and on 103b I only have 5 transponders showing and 3 are in the teens and 2 are in the 40s. From what I'm reading, if I try nudging the dish up slightly that should help the signal issues I'm getting on 103a and 103b? If not does anyone know if D* charges the service call fee to get the dish peaked? Thanks for the input.

So your readings are much better now???
