AMC1 KU skew has always been off by 20 some odd degrees

This was even confirmed a few years ago by an uplinker when I asked about the skew
It was a launch/positioning anomaly. When it achieved permanent orbit, it was tilted by -- whatever it is -- 20 or so degrees.

There are now hundreds of uplinks that are permanently skewed "off" to compensate for it, so it'll NEVER change. So I have to manually rotate and manually cross-pole each time I go up.

There was another "theory" I've seen posted, also by people in the industry, basically suggesting that the odd skew was intentional, so that the NBC dishes in NYC didn't have to be skewed. I think your reason make a lot more sense. :)

I really don't understand how a sat can go up with the skew off on Ku, but not on C-band though. I really thought that the polarity was fixed when they built the sats, but that was just a guess.
