Sound lower on HD channels

Because now you do not have Digital 5.1, just stereo surround.

In order for composite audio cable to carry 5.1 audio you need 6 audio connecters to transport the full AC-3 sound. With left and right audio you will receive Dolby Pro Logic which converts stereo to 4 channel sound (left front right front, surround and center). HDMI on a single cable will carry full 5.1 Dolby digital, DTS and even 7.1 audeo.:D

I have a Sony W4100 which has the Steady Sound as well, but i thought that was for only if you had the sound come out of the tv speakers. I think that when I am using my receiver/amp, the tv automatically switches to external audio and that option is greyed out and/or doesn't make a difference.

My TV is connected to a Sony receiver/amp via HDMI and it has that Bravia link that allows the TV to control the receiver/amp, which is nice to be able to turn on both with just the tv remote, but yes - I get blasted out of my seat when it switches from 5.1 to 2.0, etc. But I deal with it and having 5.1 always on made me enjoy the audio like I never thought I would with programming that I didn't think would make a difference.

I know there were more recent threads on this topic, but this one popped up.

Even with L613 I had this issue. I level matched my center with my mains, and the problem went away. :o

I take back what I said. I actually sat on my couch with a SPL meter and watched a bit of "Eureka." It's actually 7-10dB softer from SciFi SD to SciFi HD. There's also that 1-2 second difference similar to what I see with OTA vs. sat locals. However, that's not what this thread is about.
