190k, 130k who knows the real truth. Bottom line is Transformers SHOULD sell more than Spidey 3 it's a better movie. Has nothing to do with which is the better format. The only test is when a GREAT movie is released on both such as 300. And we all know who won that contest. I think this holiday season will either bring the playing field even or Blu will go way ahead.

Working at a unamed electronics store let's just call it The City (cough cough) I've seen dozens of people sit open mouth drooling in front of the Blu Ray demo playing on our new 56 inch Sony not believing how clean the picture is. It really is the prettiest thing I've ever seen. Chicken little looks 3D. But those same people will get up and after seeing how expensive BR players are, walk right over to the Toshiba display (on a 40 inch in the back of the store lol) that looks 'Good' but not mind blowing, proceed to pick up the $200 player and walk up to the register.

WHY?? From the people I spoke with they don't want to make a large investment in either format until the war is over. BUT they do want to be able to watch HD movies in the mean time the cheapest way possible. That hurts BR but not as much as HD DVD thinks it does. HD won't sell more 360 add ons and stand alones than Sony sells PS3's. So even though most casual home theater enthusiasts might not think Blu is worth the premium their are enough PS3 owners to always tip the balance toward Blu. Keep in mind the hundreds of thousands of PS2 users who have yet to jump over to 3. You don't think they are going to buy a 360 do you? With the price drop you will see MANY more PS3/Blu Ray player owners come early 08.

At the end of the day that is why I think Blu will win but only time will tell.

Im really tired of what sold what and who's carrying what and what costs what and whos about to support what.

Thats why I own both. Screw it.

I just finished watching Transformers on my PS3 and I personally enjoy these types of movies, and although I'm sure I would have enjoyed it more in HD, this served the purpose and will be mailed back to Netflix in the morning.
Instead of going purple, I will continue to rent any movie that interest me even if It's unavailable on Blu-Ray or not HD.
Realistically, of those who own movie collections, I wonder how many times a movie is watched in the course of a year? (Of course excluding the kids favorites)

I only buy movies that I can watch on a rainy day when Im bored like:

Blackhawk Down, Transformers, etc...

I'd say there is MAYBE 5-7 new movies every year that Id buy. Many of my purchases to date are older flicks.

I bought Fant 4 Silver Surfer BD and Face Off HDDVD today

We're not buying any new dvd players until several things happen first.

1. The Xbox blows up.
2. The PS2 blows up.
3. The VCR/DVD blows up.
4. The other DVD blows up.
5. The 32" digital TV blows up.
6. The 19" LCD TV blows up.

Then and only then will we upgrade. By the time all the above happens though the fight over HD DVD and Blu-Ray will be over. I see a repeat of BetaMax regardless of what Sony hopes.

130K is the boxset included confirmed by Paidgeek" Sony Exc blu insider confimed by AVS admins:

Don't forget new PS3's already have this SM3 included which will impact the numbers.

Impact the numbers which way? According to below post, SM3 is not counted.

Spider-Man 3 is Sony’s New Best Seller

Spiderman3-DVDBluRay.jpgVideo Business is reporting that Sony has announced Blu-ray sales of 130,000 units in the first 6 days of release. This compares with 400,000 units shipped to retailers. The number does not include discs that are offered free with Playstation 3 consoles. This is a new high for Sony, beating out Casino Royale which sold around 40,000 units in the first week of release.

I doubt BD will win if they don't drop their prices to compete. Other than early adopters, who on earth wants to spend $400 or $500 on a player? Too much money, given the uncertainty. That is the point that comes out of the OP loud and clear, even if the pq is better.

Toshiba's price cutting is probably the smartest thing done in this war. Now, if BD matches it, then it will get interesting. But even with the advent of the $100 HD DVD player (if only on special sales), the key is ultimately in the titles that are released. There have to be titles available to make the whole process worthwhile.
