Seeing Diamond Jim's beautiful spun aluminum dish on Iceberg's post http://www.satelliteguys.us/showthread.php?t=58683&page=6 prompted me to ask this question.

Has anyone ever considered making a spun-aluminum KU band dish? In theory, it could be done. You'd need to make special jig (lathe) to handle something that large, a lot of upper body strength, and the nine lives of a cat. :) Obviously, it would have to be parabolic and precise. Like just about everything these days, it would cost much more to make than it would to go out and buy off the shelf. :(

Metal spinning has always intrigued me.
Just wondering what others might think of this idea.

A couple of links if you're unfamiliar with metal spinning:

Thanks!
