Naples, Fla. - SPIRIT, a new 24/7 Christian music video channel, is set for a March launch on the Sky Angel nationwide direct-to-home satellite television service. SPIRIT will be the nation's only 24/7 contemporary music video channel programmed specifically for adults with Christian music as its focus. SPIRIT will air on Sky Angel Channel 9706.

Positioned as "Adult . Contemporary . Music", the new SPIRIT television network will incorporate music videos from artists including Third Day, Mercy Me, Newsboys and Rebecca St. James, along with specialty music-centered programming designed to reach adult audiences. SPIRIT is scheduled to debut in early March and will be immediately available to subscribers of the Sky Angel direct-to-home satellite service.

"I'm very excited about giving exposure to artists and music videos that will finally be seen for the first time ever on SPIRIT," said John Owens, operations manager for SPIRIT. "There's currently no channel carrying videos from these artists 24/7. Plus, SPIRIT will have a fresh mix of on-air personalities, music news and programming that will appeal to adults and young families."

SPIRIT is being developed by Spirit Communications of Columbus, Ohio, creator of TVU Music Television and The RadioU Network, which includes a non-commercial FM radio station and national radio network. Both TVU and RadioU currently air 24/7 nationwide on Sky Angel and feature a Christian music format targeting college and high school aged listeners by programming a mix of hip-hop, alternative and rock music.

"TVU meets the needs of the 12-to-24-year-old, but there is a large audience of 'thirty-somethings' that have no video channel playing their music," said Owens. "We are developing a great variety of music programming for this channel," added Owens. "It will be something fresh that won't be too hard or too soft but a great mix of music videos."

Sky Angel previously carried Praise TV, a 24-hour contemporary Christian music video channel that played mainstream Christian artists. In October, Praise TV ceased operation.

"Demand has been high for a new contemporary Christian music channel since Praise TV went off the air," said Kathleen Johnson, vice president of programming for Sky Angel. "Sky Angel is pleased to know that Spirit Communications with its rich history in providing cutting-edge music television has stepped up to the plate to put together the channel. The Lord has blessed Spirit Communications with a wonderful ownership and staff who are dedicated to putting together a quality channel."

Just to be clear, Spirit is coming Wenesday (more than likely). It is not yet available to subscribers, though it has been uplinked to the satellite since last Wednesday.

I still like it. though they seem to have a relatively short play list. But still more variety than the average top 40 radio station! :)
