Not sure where else to post this, so I'll try here.

I need to install a new phone jack in my utility room (relocating DSL modem down there).

The CAT3 (2 pairs) comes from the telco on the side of the house, into the attic, and splits off. One to a bedroom, and one to the kitchen.

I need to split it again and will run a CAT5 cable from the attic to my utillity room.

What type of device do I want to make this easy, so I can just punch them down?

For DSL I would connect new cat 5 at the outside Telco connection then run that to the utility room. From the utility room you can run new to the attic and wire nut the pair that you are using. You always want the best connection to the DSL modem and then tap off from there.

Rather disturbing Apple/FedEx news
