Statement from Dish Network

Honestly (and please don't get mad at me for saying this) but some folks are just cheap and want all the freebies they can get. Its not that they want the family package for the family programming, but they want the cheapest package they can get with their favorite channels in it.

Yep. Two categories here:

1. Family "friendly" subscribers, who by definition don't want certain programming in their home. Programs with names like "Sex Spa." That's the real name of a show from the free preview weekend, and yes, it was soft porn. Clear cut- Dish was correct in not pumping the free preview of such material to such customers.

2. People getting by as cheap as possible. These folks are not likely to sub to HBO, etc. Why should Dish provide a free preview to someone unlikely to subscribe? The only reason for the free preview is to entice new subscribers. Endlessly looking for freebies is fine, there just is no justification for complaining when you don't always get those freebies.

the morality pushers can't have it both ways. It's called a "family package" for a reason.
I agree. If they made the free HBO weekend automatically available for Family pack and, heaven forbid, a naked breast appeared on the screen what do you think would happen. The right-wingers would immediately notify the FCC, call their senators, contact the White House, and possibly file a lawsuit against Dish.

If someone's "delicate" sensibilities are so easily offended, and that they are incapable of figuring out how to use the parental locks properly, then I have NO problem with their decision to shield themselves from negative fallout by not streaming The Sopranos or any other potentially traumatizing content on their TVs.

If you require them to make your TV squeaky clean, quit bitchin'. Oops, sorry. Bleep that bitchin' comment. Uh oh. Damn, Did it again. OH, NEVERMIND!

How about a "Statement" about when they are going to fix these dang 211's that we are "RENTING". Charging me for a product that doesn't even work propperly.

I would like to see a statement from Dish acknowledging reception and hardware problems with the D1000 on the west coast and what their intentions are as to rectifying same.

I can see why they would not offer the HBO channels to those that have the Family Package. They should give you the option to receive them though.

Dish's "Family Pak" is nothing more than yet another way of 'parents' not being 'parental'. Parenting is laborious and time consuming... as it should be. Heaven forbid a parent should have to take the time to block unwanted programming content... or worse yet... have an open dialog with their children as to why some programming is not appropriate for them to watch.

The solution is not censorship or shielding... it's an open dialog with your children.

Canada allows some fairly 'adult' programming on its OTA and cable/sat channels... are Canada's children really being harmed by this? ...or are they benefitting from the extra parental involvement?

On a related note... how did the parents protect their children Sunday when Fox openly allowed the word 'sh*t' to be aired during the Nascar race? How did parents handle the airing of a violent car wreck that took a drivers life, which was shown ad nausem? How do parents protect their children from hearing a tele-evangelist talk about how we need to murder a fellow human to whom he disagrees with?

That means that in the future, they'll make it clear that people who subscribe to the Family Tier won't be getting the free preview weekend. They'll do this in their ads, their website, press release, and so on.

Sorry to whoever bitched about this. If you are getting the family tier for "family" reasons vs the lower monthly rate, why would HBO be of interest to you ?? People are just mad that they didn't get "free" HBO...

I sub to the Family Pack AND HBO ! Like I said before my reason is not for the rugrats , which I don't have, it is because I don't want to pay for the crap I don't watch !

Well written..Excellent response...The same people who bitch and moan about mature themes on pay tv were exactly why the family tier was created
But the greed in some people is amazing..Even though most family tier subs wanted to keep HBO out of their homes they are incensed becuase there was an opportunity to get something for free even though they would normally have no interest in the product...
Tsk tsk....

They should make the free previews "Opt Out" for Family package subscribers.

When you sign up they should ask you if you would like to have access to the premium free channel previews Dish Network offers as a courtesy to its customers from time to time.

But that would make WAY too much sense. :D
An opt out choice at time of acvtivation only..Not after the fact..

Not true because Dish Latino subs qualify for the free HBO/Cinemax preview and Dish Latino starts at $24.99. Not true if you also subscribe to HD and Voom like you do, along with South Asian Mega Pack which is one of the most expensive international packages out there at $54.99. If you were one of those customers, your monthly bill would've come out to around $75.97 plus additional receiver fees.

They made HBO/Cinemax free in preview for qualifying packages (AT60 and higher, Dish Latino and higher, and Great Wall), but not for DISH Family. And I applaud them for not including HBO/Cinemax to Dish Family subs because of the purpose and intent of Dish Family but they should've done a much better job of explaining why and disclosing up front on who'd get the free preview. I think they learned their lesson for the Showtime free preview coming up soon. Well, I hope so for their sake, at least.
DishLatino Dos is the qualifying programming for the free movie promotion..Not D-Latino....same as the AT60 is not eligible either..AT 120 is the correct level

Well if E* did provided it automatically there would probably be complaints and lawsuits that E* had no right to show them without asking permission!

In other words E* should have provided an "OPT IN":up

not an "OPT Out":down

My Two cents

Yeah- why provide a freebie meant to encourage subscription to someone unlikely to subscribe (since they subscribe about as cheaply as they can- or subscribe to "family safe" programming only)?
