We apologize for the very brief interruptions in the AM this afternoon. We're checking the day/night switching system, all should be in good shape now.
As with any 24 hour business, one must "maintain" one's equipment, or pay the price at odd hours of the night or weekends/holidays. "Murphy's law."
Thank you for your indulgence.

WION has been servicing our transmission system and network today. Brief afternoon interruptions were required for us to test a piece of equipment, and the work continues this evening. We anticipate any short (AM and stream) interruptions to be short ones. Apologies in advance for any continued inconvenience.

We have a confirmed charter outage in Ionia, affecting more than WION, we apologize but our streams are down at the present time. This message posted via....drum roll please....DIALUP BACKUP.
We hope to be back online soon. No ETA.

THE GOOD NEWS: Charter fixed our service last night quickly.
THE "LESS THAN GOOD" news: Our AM STEREO streaming service is operating on a backup tuner while our main(s) are repaired by the engineer.
We hope to have you back to our "usual" AM stereo quality soon....in the meantime, it's STILL AM stereo....the kind "Radio Shack" used to serve up on a TM-152 tuner.
(not "pro quality.")
"Engineers are standing by."
(Actually engineers are working hard.)

Some people on the Galaxy Phones by Samsung are reporting difficulties receiving us on our (48k phone) stream. It is NOT the fault of WION, our streams are up and running, please use the "Tune-In Radio" app until a fix is found, we're there for you as well! Blame it on your smartphone's carrier pushing updates. (Insert sarcasm here)..."thank you, Bloated Corporate America!...we love you, too."

When a stream is in question, you can always visit our "listen" page to check BOTH our online streams, the HQ and the Bandwidth saver (phone)...if they play on the 'web via PC or tablet, it's likely a phone problem!

Charter Communications is OUT once again at our studio location and at our sister station, WGLM, (Greenville, MI) thus the stream and e-mails/facebook/ etc are not being updated early this morning. We've not contacted Charter as of 7:20 this morning, assuming it's a widespread outage. Charter reported to our sister station that it's an outage involving “static IP” customers, likely many businesses, not affecting (some) local residential Charter customers. Restoration time: Unknown. Posted via ...drum roll please....DIALUP!! (Charter phone is working, and accepting a "14-4 modem connection" believe it or not! ) Anyone wanting to reach us has to do it....(gasp) by VOICE for awhile!

Restored...about 2 hours after the morning show began. Streamer verified running!
Guess I'll have to "work" today, now...with lots of e-mails coming in and work piling up! Darn!

Reminder to our listeners of WION's internet stream: The stream will be taken "down" for system repairs today (11/10) immediately after the morning show. it may be down for several hours. Please plan accordingly. Remember: WE control the horizontal. WE control the vertical. And, we thank you for flying the friendly I-1430 airwaves.

Good Evening, WION fans!

Our 'net streams are restored. Song titles and other info to come, but they're UP! We're on a temporary system, and will restore that feature soon...but we figured the "sound" comes first!

Join us on the PB & J show Wednesday morning as we announce something VERY exciting we're doing in partnership with our friends at Berger Motor Sales. Yes, it's another GREAT community partnership, and we'll be asking your help for a GREAT event. Tune-in for details!

See you in the morning! (on the radio) Time to get out of the office!

It appears that in the 8AM hour this morning the streaming for WION and WGLM Radio stopped running at the server's end. We've put in what's called a "trouble ticket" to get it back online, and when the company fixes their end, your streams should start up again, but you MAY have to hit "start" now and then to check on it. We'll let you know when we see the server has been fixed.

WION is auditioning a new stereo tuner for our streaming product. We put it online the night of September 14th.....and it sounds pretty good to us online!
(We've been on a backup receiver for a few weeks now, til today.)

Please tune in online and let us know what you think on our streams, especially if you have an internet radio, or Tune-in radio on your smart TV through your home theater system. (Or a favorite pair of headphones to enjoy AM stereo.) Post here what you think of the sound from this CARVER (our favorite brand for streaming to you)....or, better yet, CALL our automated comment line at 616-425-92-70 after you hear AM stereo and let us know what you think, and where you're enjoying our stream! We may just use your voice on the air sometime soon!

We'll be making some adjustments to this setup, but we like the quality of AM stereo this classic receiver is serving up to you, our listeners!

Cheers!

WION is aware of an internet outage thru Charter. Teams from Charter have been onsite at WION for a couple hours and are working. Please be aware our streams will return upon restoration. This message posted via Uconnect from the new WION station Jeep's wifi. Ask for a demo of this convenient in-car service from our friends at Young Chrysler Jeep Ram in Ionia or Ed Koehn in Greenville!

I'll have to check it out, the last couple mornings, and deafly this morning, during the new segments I noticed a bizarre humming noise in the background of the signal. I guess this was the backup receiver? I'll have to tune in and check out the new tuner. Ignore any bizarre typos, I'm dictating this at the moment.

We will be offline with our streaming and e-mails at least through early morning on Thursday. A new modem and all new cabling has been installed at our studios but there is some kind of "noise" on the line not caused by WION's broadcasting and more techs are coming in the morning to try to restore our service. Because of this, we may not have all the CBS features, Osgood, Profile America, and some other services including morning e-mail. Just a heads up and a "thank you" for your patience. We'll keep you posted. Our compliments for the very polite techs who helped us this evening, and have scheduled tomorrow's diagnostic visit.

This posting brought to you by the Lamplight Grill in downtown Ionia where the wifi is also appreciated.

We have been told by Charter (techs) that our outage is shared by many "business" customers who have what is called a static IP. All we can do is wait for restoration. Charter officials did not want to "declare" it an outage, which is why when we called techs to WION yesterday and again today, they were sent, basically wasting good technician's time. We compliment our techs, and are disappointed in Charter's decisions. This outage has affected some of Charter's Greenville customers as well. Until service is restored, please enjoy CBS news and our music. Mr. Osgood, The Ag network, and Michigan news will return when possible. We apologize for any inconvenience and for Charter's poor communications with it's supposedly important "business" customers. Again, NO reflection on our local techs who are excellent at what they do.

Back! 24 hours after initial outage. Speed seems fine.
"newer" sounding Michigan News net, and the regular shows you missed today return we hope on Friday, barring any unforseen Charter incidents.

Now that we have 'net back, I see the references to the hum in news. In a nutshell,
CBS, the MI news net, and others don't give a rat's a$$ what they sound like anymore.
They send buzz in actualities, their spots are highly compressed mp3's sent TO our satellite receiver then
reassembled to play, often with "blips" in them. Please do not ever judge WION by a newscast's sound quality.
NOBODY at higher levels seem to care. It's "get it on the air" not, "get it there sounding good" these days. SAD.
