To the experts this should be simple. All the hardware is setup. I have installed a Satellilte disk, facing in the general vicinity of the Satellite I need to contact. I can manipulate it easily both elevation and azimuth. I have connected the disk via an appropriate co-axial cable to my Triax SR 110 Digital Satellite Receiver. I can view my Television screen from where the Satellite disk is located. My problem: What do I do next.
When I boot the receiver I get various screens. One asking what language I want to use? No problem. Another called Satellite Disk setup. I click on this and get readings for strength of signal and quality of signal. But where do I go from there? How do I get a screen which responds to the manipulation of the Satellite disk. All the screens seem to be within the Triax Receiver setup program. I am told the Satellite settings are pre-set and am told to set the receiver to Channel One. I am stumped. All I can find is the Satellite Disk setup screen and cannot get out of it. Emails to Triax technical support have not been answered. Any basic advise would be much appreciated

Signal and quality page is what you want.Move the dish around gently till the quality reader is as best you can get.Once there tighten it all up and scan and make sure you have the correct sat.

Go to the list section at the top of the forum and find the sat you want and look and see what it says for strong transponders. You want to pick that transponder before moving the dish. That selection should be available in the dish setup as well.

Sorry.Sorta hard to explain stting at a pc.

Andy , he's in Ireland , the list wont help him. To original poster>Which satellite are you trying to aim your dish toward? You will need to get aiming coordinates from one of the sites that have that info. dishpointer.com is one, but I don't know if they cover your side of the world. Anyway, once you find that, you can enter your location coordinates and you should get back all the elevation and azimuth info you need to aim your dish.
You may need to 'setup' that satellite in your receiver, and enter a known working transponder frequency to help you aim. LyngSat - Lyngemark Satellite has lists of most of the satellites with the transponder info. You'll need to choose what type lnbf you have, and enter that also.
Then its a matter of moving the dish slowly until you get a signal.

EamonX you didn't mention using a motor so I didn't try going there, lol. If the dish is to be fixed, it isn't really hard to find that first signal, just takes patience. You may have to be generous with the elevation angle depending on how accurate your dish's elevation scale is marked. I've heard of some being off by nearly 10degrees, so make small adjustments at a time, until you get some signal and quality showing on your satellite's strength meter.
Don't forget to "skew" the lnbf for that particular satellite (turn in its holder/clamp).

Eamon, First of all aligning a dish and (I AM PRESUMING IT IS NOT MOTORISED) is far more difficult than an ordinary Tv antenna.
You are on the right page on your receiver but you need to look at this site SatLex Digital :: Technology :: Calculators :: AZ/EL Calculator fill in the detail as accurately as possible you can get your exact position from (Google earth.com) and this will give you the elevation, azimuth and skew angles. for the particular bird you are trying to locate. The Elevation should have a graduated scale on your mounting fix this first. The skew angle is shown looking at the LNB from the dish and providing you are within a few degrees this will be ok. Lastly the Azimuth you can get near with a compass remembering true not magnetic adjustment.
The signal strength/ quality takes a few seconds to achieve for each dish position so as Turbo says it is patience and very small dish movements less than 1 cm at a time. I guess you are going for Astra 28 and eurobird which is a strong signal with some spacing either side. - Good luck
