My father and I just got E*and we both have Superdishes. I went to check out his install and the first thing I saw was that his dish was metal. My dish is plastic. I am assuming that the plastic dish was made to decrease the weight. I was wondering if the metal dish would provide superior reception. Are there others out there with plastic dishes?

The plastic dishes are heavier than the metal ones and I've put in alot of both and the Plastic ones generally give a better signal because they are easier to tune. At least they are for me.

I've seen some installers who post here mention that the plastic dishes were cracking in the area that the LNB arm attaches... They were insisting that people refuse the plastic dishes.

The plastic dishes get better reception because they are sturdier. The metal ones flex slightly under a wind load.

Dish only did it so they could have 2 manufacturers, so they could produce them faster. At first SDishes were in short supply.
