Are there any limitations as to the distance from the dish that the switches can be located.

I have my Voom dish (to be replaced by E* dish) at one location and my present E* dish at another and would like to install the switch in my attic where the coaxes terminate.

I've found distances to be relative to the quality of your cable. Crap cable, even rg6, will work with legacy switches to their limits, about 150', while the even transponders on DP will drop way off by then. I know you can stretch out lengths from dish to receivers by locating the switch closer to the receivers but make sure you use good wire.
