Hello Friends,

DMS International has come out with a new receiver, the SYNOQ SR1. This is a very small yet powerful unit. While it does not have a Front Panel Display or Front Panel Control buttons, in my initial testing, the blind scan has been very good.

Currently the receiver will do 4:2:0 and Not 4:2:2. The specs say it will do MPEG2 and MPEG4 and 8PSK, 16APSK and 32APSK.

DMS International has expressed interest in further developing the firmware to address things that may make it more appealing to the hobbyist's market.

I have had the pleasure to work with Mr. Tim from DMSI for many years now and he sold me my very first FTA Digital receiver and is also responsable for bringing the First Ever Blind Scan Receivers to the N. American market.

The Video quality though the HDMI is very good.

I am in the early stages of breaking in and evaluating the receiver. Here are some of my initial scanning results:

Blind Scanned Galaxy 3C Horizontal. Time: 40 seconds
Found 8 Channels: 3 - ABC's @ 4000MHz SR30000 / 5 - $ Fox's @ 4080MHz SR31250

Blind Scanned Galaxy 3C Vertical. Time: 1 Minute 30 Seconds
Found 15 Channels: 3835MHz SR1036 / $ 3943MHz SR2000 / $ 3953MHz SR2000 / 3964MHz SR1036 / 3969MHz SR1036 / 3978MHz SR1036 / 4 - $ Fox's @ 4060 SR31250 / $ 4100 SR14037 Tuner Feed / 4 @ 4167MHz SR6615

Blind Scanned Galaxy 17 Vertical. Time: 1 Minute 40 seconds
Found 61 Channels: 4 - $ Fox's @ 4140MHz SR31250 / 11 $ 4100 SR30000 / 4077MHz SR3000 / 4067MHz SR6052 / 4 - $ Fox's @ 4020MHz SR31250 / 5 - $ 3985MHz SR4250 / 3940MHz SR2480 / 3 @ 3937MHz SR3000 / 4 - $ Fox's @ 3860MHz SR31250 / 20 $ 3820MHz SR30000 / 4 - $ Fox's @ 3740MHz SR31250

Blind Scanned Galaxy 16 Horizontal. Time: 1 Minute 10 seconds
Found 31 Channels: 3 - ABC's @ 4120MHz SR30000 / 2 - 4080MHz SR27780 / 4040MHz SR26665 / 6 Leesa @ 4000 SR26400 / 3929MHz SR3125 / 6 $ 2880 SR30000 / 6 PR Locals @ 3845MHz SR15031 / 3811MHz SR3255 / 3792MHz SR1664 / $ 3786MHz SR4850 / 3776MHz SR3255 / Fox & Me @ 3720MHz SR8704

YouTube worked well for me at first and then I was getting a lot of unsupported file and they would not play while other would. Not sure if it is just my DSL or not.
Still have to try with a motor and the WiFi, switches and recording...

So many features to test and so little time...
What do you think about this receiver?

I'm not sure what it brings to the table that the Amiko Mini HD SE doesn't, other than built-in WiFi.

One of my perennial complaints with non-Linux STB designers is that they provide media player capability, and they provide networking capability, but they don't combine the two to allow playing of media from network drives. Even the Mini HD SE doesn't. (It does, unlike all others in its class, provide a DLNA client, but my objections to DLNA are well known.) The new Linkbox apparently does, but it's at the price point of a full-blown Linux receiver like the Amiko Alien or the AZboxes, plus it apparently lacks one feature that they both have: streaming of programming FROM the STB. The only thing it appears to have that I miss on the Alien is a super-fast blind scan.

I don't see anything myself that would make me want it, is there any price on it? I wonder what it means in the description where it states that it has auto DISEqC/USALS? That's the only thing that really catches my attention.

The main thing that has me curious is the Sat-ip. Wonder what all capabilities come with that. Blind scan speeds look good.

Interesting new product. Will be great to read a review.

Auto DiSEqC has been around for years and I disabled it in every STB that I have developed. The function is on many STBs with European heritage. It it usually used on Austra/HotBird installs in Europe. The process scans a connected switch to determine what ports are active and what preprogrammed satellite the LNB is receiving then saved the setting automatically. No real use in North America.

It does bring a claim that only 1 other STB has claimed and that is it will do 32 APSK....The other STB that lays this claim is the Linkbox but I have yet to see anyone confirm that it will do that modulation...Time will tell but I am leaning towards a TBS 6925 more so than another STB.

Montage based cards/ usb receivers like my HDstar are supposed to do 32 APSK. While I haven’t tried one yet to confirm, at the $50 I paid you could get 5 for the cost of a TBS6925. I was thinking the old Openboxs would do 32 APSK, I know they do 16 APSK.

Don't know of a consumer dish big enough for 32apsk reception. Think, for a fighting chance, you'd need a 16 ft to get enough gain for the required S/N. Or maybe a 14ft commercial grade.
Just my Humble opinion.

I have locked a 32apks a couple times with my 10 footer but had to use a commercial demod to play. It was 128mbit. My TBS5925 could only lock but not play clean.

It's another HDVR-1200 or X2 same novatek chip.

The good thing for DMSI is they still work with the same coder they have used for 10+ years.

If Im reading the linux driver correctly (windows should be no different) the 5925 uses serial continuous, which is limited to 108Mbit/sec, which is fine for 99.9% of stuff up there, but 32apsk can hold some serious bitrate. The 6925 uses parallel so it should top out at 270Mbit/sec

The Montage M88DS3000/2 claims a maximum channel bit rate of 130 Mbps so 128 would have it at its limit.

If its something he sells why not have a section just for it? Makes it easier to follow along with any updates on the receiver

Yes but he doesn't even have a section for Traxis which comes from the same importer and has been selling for many years now!

For all practical purposes the AZbox is dead. The company is gone and the only thing remaining are leftovers.

Its good to see a new box come in. Tim at DMSI is not know for bringing in junk. I look forward to hearing more reviews on it.

Not worth the time and effort as he would immediately delete the post like when anyone posts about a product he does not carry!

I love how STBs are dissed before they are even tested or available for sale. Maybe someone would post a review before the dog pile begins? :D

As the STB is based on a Novatek chipset, I am curious how it displays standard definition 480i programming. Anyone have one yet? How does it work? Strengths? Weaknesses?
