Two items catching my attention:

*HP Mediasmart Server for DVR backup
*VIP211 being "converted" to a DVR by adding an external USB hard drive.

I was wondering if the VIP211 could be turned into a DVR just by adding an external Hard drive. Kick Ass!!!! I am going to assume this means once they activate the Hard drive feature on both the VIP622 and 211 that I can hook up a Hard drive to the 622 and also move that Hard drive to the 211.

Great Photos

Awesome photos Scott one of the reasons why I support your cause! Hopefully they will get the Dish On Demand stuff rolling out sooner than later... The HP storage looks very tempting. Great for showing off demo material.

You know what they say about "assume"... I've been looking for this feature since I got my ViP211, but I'd just as soon have something like the HP Media Server on the Home LAN and have the receivers connect to it. That way, the noise is SEP (Someone Else's Problem)...

Yes, Bluetooth... Hmmm, maybe your Dish HD receiver will be able to show you who's calling your mobile while you're watching TV, ala Caller ID for your POTS line. Or be able to play those viral videos in full HD glory!:p Except Bluetooth isn't all that speedy, if I recall. Certainly not fast enough for video; audio perhaps.

The TR-40 shows that Dish does know how to receive and decode PSIP, they just choose not to on their other HD receivers.

Scott, thanks for the pix of Dish Mount and Applied Instruments. They show how beefy the Dish Mounts really are.:up

Also, the firat picture showing the DVR schedule on the web browser: Is that from a local HomeLAN PC? Or will there be some way of supporting a secure connection into your DVR from the outside?

I noticed the same thing! At first I though they might be pulling data over the phone line on a nightly dial-in. After seeing the back of the unit and the obvious lack of a phone jack, I have to agree with you. I would love to hear Charlie's explanation on why we can't get PSIP and why the subchannel data was pulled for many networks. (I don't buy the receiver incompatibility rumor since the subchannel data could easily be flagged to be ignored.

It will be very interesting to see how this plays out...

Cheers,
Red

Also, thanks for the photos Scott! Please keep them coming (along with any additional info to explain the questions we have when seeing them).

:)

I was also intrigued with the Sling ethernet adapter. Has there been any word on how Dish plans to use this? Wouldn't it be nice to finally ditch the phone line requirement!

Scott,

Is there any more information on the HP home server? I am in the MS beta for Home Server and it is shaping up to be quite a product. If there is a plug in for the console that will allow remote DVR storage it would make Home Server the ultimate all in one device.

DAMN! Look at all the holes in the top of the ViP222 for better cooling. I want to buy a top cover from a ViP222 if available, to put on my 622!

Good idea. But they'd never allow it. Thank god for the USB-port which enables my laptop cooler under the 622.
