The Tennis Channel Brings U.S. Tennis Fans Daily, Live Coverage of the 2004 Hyundai Hopman Cup
LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 29, 2003--The Tennis Channel, the 24-hour cable television network devoted to tennis and other racquet sports, will exclusively bring daily, live competition from the 2004 Hyundai Hopman Cup to U.S. viewers. The Hyundai Hopman Cup is the only international men's and women's mixed teams' tournament and has showcased unprecedented combinations of the world's top players in its men's and women's singles, plus mixed (teams of one man, one woman) doubles format. The Tennis Channel will carry live tournament coverage from the permanent home of The Hopman Cup, the Burswood Dome in Perth, Australia, on Saturday, Jan. 3, at 9 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 4, at 4:30 a.m. and each day Jan. 5-9 at 9 p.m. (all times EST).
Competition begins on January 3, 2004, with an incredible draw featuring the defending champions, USA's Lindsay Davenport and James Blake, Australia's Lleyton Hewitt and Alicia Molik, Belgium's Kim Clijsters and Xavier Malisse, and Russia's Marat Safin and Anastasia Myskina, the Slovak Republic's Daniela Hantuchova and Karol Kucera, France's Amelie Mauresmo and Fabrice Santoro, Czech Republic's Jiri Novak and Barbora Strycova, Canada's Frank Dancevic and Maureen Drake, and Hungary's Attila Savolt and Petra Mandula. Eight mixed teams compete each year in the Hopman Cup; this year the Canadian and Hungarian teams have a first-day play-off to determine the 8th seed.
The Hyundai Hopman Cup, named after the Australian Davis Cup player and legendary coach Harry Hopman, is the third arm of the ITF International Team Events consisting of the Davis Cup for men, the Fed Cup for women and the Hopman Cup for men and women, all of which have aired in the U.S. exclusively on The Tennis Channel. Hyundai Hopman Cup XVI, to be held from January 3-9, 2004, is the Official Mixed Teams Competition of the ITF.
