Sorry if this has been discussed in another forum topic :

Question : Has ANYONE ever successfully made a timer recording on a 9200? I have yet to...no matter what, the wrong channel is recorded.

I've owned my 9200 for 1 1/2 years now and am used to its quirks (recently upgraded to the S2 premium board - cool to get the S2 wildfeeds!). Being able to record FTA would be nice.

PS - I also know about the hi-bitrate-HD recording limitations. I'm just trying to record some SD.

I've had the 9200 for quite some time, and the clock is crap. I don't think it's held the correct time for 12 hours. From what I've read, it just isn't going to work, and if by chance, it starts a recording on time, it will most likely be the wrong channel, so I've not bothered with timed recordings, other than a few times a long time ago. Was hoping that the last firmware update would have addressed this, but no, the clock is still crap. Other than that I am happy with mine. But at the same time I am weighing option on a replacement as mine is getting quite old.

Thanks for the reply FaT Air. It's still good for recording "live" I guess.

I'm not looking to get a new receiver yet, but when I do it won't be a Pansat. The 9200HD seems to be an experimental prototype that someone said "OK, let's build 'em & ship 'em out" without them truly being a finished reliable consumer product. (Well, maybe the hardware's OK, it's the firmware that needs a rewrite).

I think it's also trying to get too much from a processor that's only running at about 250Mhz. If it is economically prohibitive to increase the microprocessor speed, someone should design a box with multiple processors, One to do nothing but the video decoding, another to do the functions. Also be able to load whatever codecs you want/need. Guess i'm hoping for VLC in a FTA STB.
Another thing is: I don't think FTA can be labeled a "Consumer product", but rather a hobby product, as no service is guaranteed. Consumer products utilizing satellites are the subscription based units.
For reliable timed recordings the way to go is a PC based FTA. A couple of solutions are DVBWorld, Prof7500 are usb, Prof7301 is PCI.
