Took advantage of the new online cancel button. return HR-24?

I'm a little late to this conversation but thought I'd mention that I cancelled in May and they didn't want my HR54 or three HR24s returned. That surprised me — I figured they'd surely want the HR54. Nope.
Thats what I was expecting to, I also had the HR54 and various others. (I still have the equipment in a box in the garage)

I spoke with D* today about potentially turning them on STREAMING wise come December (if YTTV - Disney issues are not over) ....

The guy offered me quite good offers (both Sat and Stream) ...
I asked why they never offered anything like this when I cancelled ....
He said, you need to talk to the Winback dept ... which I have never heard of from D*, but ATT did have a winback dept (they have nothing to do with one another any longer.

I told him I was going on Vacation and will think about it when I get back ... 2nd week in Dec is the Big Ten Championship game on ESPN, the rest of the college football playoffs will also be on espn.
We'll see if it's back on my YTTV by then, or not ... at least I don't have to pay Disney for what I am already paying for thru YTTV ....
I'd rather pay another company than pay for something twice.

I stored all my receivers as well, just in case they suddenly ask for them to be returned.

I'm currently subscribed to one of the Genre Packs from DirecTV Stream and have been quite pleased. Nice price, and works well. I will say it is nice to not have any of THEIR equipment in the house. No worries about needing to swap defective gear (and all the CSR troubleshooting that goes along with it), and eliminated a lot of cabling, power supplies, the dish, etc. Way simplier.

Are you aware the YTTV is offering a $20 credit due to the Disney dispute?

The guy from D* tried to get me to sign up today, of course, he kept telling me it needed the Something Air box (is it Genie air ?)
Anyways, I don't want any boxes, I want to load it on my TV (already there from previously) or on a Roku, either way.
I think he said, they would cover the box fee because I'm a Long time Sat sub, but we'll see.
I told him I will make a choice in December (don't really need an option till 2nd week in Dec, CFP).

Yes, I applied for my credit ...

No I don't but the people aren't the problem. They make customer service bad intentionally so no one will want to use it.
people are part of the problem it seems some of the poor csr's wern't trained well if at all... seems like alot of em were just thrown in a seat with a script in front of them with no training on how to run the computer systems. it's called cheap labor

I don't know about that, usually D* says you have to be gone for 6 or 12 months.

Also, I was on Sat, this time I will more than likely be on Stream ... I refuse to sign a contract.

I am really only trying to cover the YTTV / Disney dispute ... hopefully thats over real soon and I won't have to bother with it.

direct told us 6 months gone before we could become new customers again right after we canceled. though the website let us get by as new subs interesting. i can't say i blame you for not wanting to sign a contract if your channels go missing your stuck with it!!!

You might find it hard to believe the gentleman is misinformed. :biggrinThey do have dedicated streaming boxes, but there's an app for pretty much every kind of stand-alone streamer (Apple TV, Roku, etc). The only advantage to the DirecTV box is that the remote has number buttons, so you can punch in channel numbers just like a satellite box. Might have a little better navigation as well, but I haven't tried it — I use Apple TV, which works just fine.

OK ....

I have sent stuff back, back when they would send you a return box, then when they went to dropping the equipment off at Fed Ex and all the way up to Now when they said to toss most of them.

If the 1st person couldn't take care of your issue, did you Call back and get someone in the Billing Dept or just whatever CSR that answered the phone ?

Also, Quit blaming the ATT system ....
Do you REALLY think that ATT came in to ALL the Locations and removed working systems and replaced them with thier own, ????

Moving from ATT account to D* account should not require any kind of an Activation Fee, what are they activating ?
They are swapping existing service, no fees required, your not turning anything new on.

If you go into the conversation Mad with a negative attitude, thats probably the results you'll get.
i just brought there stuff into a fedex store and sent it back that way.
agree with you that they should have just transfered they acct off of the att system on to the dtv sysem. but they told us that we needed to cancel and come back as new subs hmmmmm wich makes no sense to me as well!!! red flags
Stop blaming the ATT system hmm more than one rep told me it sucks and they took alot of tools away from them. i bit my tounge more than once dealing with em,,

The remote with numbers, would be nice, but I can probably do without now that I'm use to the rest.
Wonder, are the Channel Numbers on Stream, the same numbers as on Sat ?

Exactly but that isn't a problem with the people. That is a problem by the company that fails to train them properly.

It is actually cheaper if you plan on keeping DIRECTV Stream long term...like for 2 years.

With the Gemini Air that $15 per month discount on the package you choose will save you $345 over months 2-24 minus the $10 per month charge for the Gemini Air so for months 2-24 that totals up to $230 so your savings for months 2-24 would be $345 - $230 = $115.00. Without getting the Gemini Air you get $10 for months 2 - 3 for a total of $20 so you save $95 over that first two years if you get the Gemini Air.

Plus with the Gemini Air your package price is locked in for 2 years whereas without the Gemini it is not locked in and you will get the DIRECTV yearly price hike next October....or sooner. That doesn't mean you have a contract though which there is none. It is just a 2 year price lock. You can still cancel at any time. You would also be able to get the free Disney+/Hulu ad supported package too.

None of that matters though if you are only going to use it for a month,

This is what i was trying to say as it's very true. some places they juist toss em in a seat and expect the employees to know everything when there left clueless

Yes, the streamed channels have the same numbers. I see the numbers in the guide on Apple TV, though I can't actually enter them. The guide can be sorted alphabetically, or by channel number.

Like you, I got used to navigating without numbers, but I still keep the guide sorted that way as it's familiar.

Yes they are. Some differences between satellite and streaming
You don't subscribe to a channel, it's not in the guide
If there are more than one channel of a sports channel (like BTN) all numbers are 610. There are no dashes
Directv fills in channels you don't subscribe to with offers available. As example 211 talks about sports pack and 223 is for NBA LP 224 mentions MLS Season Pass.

The streaming service in my mind is better than satellite as I can record as much as I want (no limits) and sporting events have auto extend. No need to manually add time for a baseball game and hope you added enough.
