TOSHIBA SHOWCASES NEW DLP™ PROJECTION TV DESIGNS AND THEIR TALEN X™ 1080P XHD™ ENGINE

New Toshiba Projection TV models using DLP technology from Texas Instruments feature SoundStrip™ Speaker technology for a stylish compact design

CES, LAS VEGAS – JANUARY 04, 2006 – Toshiba America Consumer Products, L.L.C. ("Toshiba") displayed its newly designed DLP Projection TV models at CES 2006. While continuing with their goal of providing the best possible picture quality, Toshiba also knows that design has become a driving factor in the micro-display PTV category. Intensifying their efforts in this area, Toshiba has created a new level of design quality that complements its superior picture quality and will also complement virtually any home décor.

"By utilizing our SoundStrip Speaker technology, we were able to minimize our cabinetry while maximizing our design. In fact, the front view of our new "scoop design" 50" PTV model is actually smaller than many 50" flat panel TV models," said Scott Ramirez, Vice President, TV Marketing. "At the same time, we continue with our high standards for HD picture quality, creating a package that is hard to beat."

Toshiba Technology
Toshiba's new 720p models with DLP technology will utilize their new TALEN 5 engine. This engine incorporates the Texas Instruments HD5 DLP chip and new Brilliant Color 2 technology. In addition, Toshiba will continue its brightness advantage with the Hi-Bright Radiance 150™ Watt Lamp.

To further enhance picture quality, Toshiba's new models utilizing DLP technology also feature new PixelPure™ 14-Bit video processing. This new high-speed system operates at 333 MHz and provides true 14-Bit processing for more natural images. In addition to its high bit rate, PixelPure 14-Bit also features new real speed progressive scanning, increased dynamic range, increased sharpness, improved video noise reduction and dynamic gamma for uncompromised picture quality.

Toshiba's current "XHD-2x Resolution" 1080p models incorporate the TALEN X engine. This engine utilizes the Texas Instruments' xHD4 DLP chip and Toshiba's Xtreme BLAC™ aperture control technology to provide twice the pixel resolution and twice the contrast. XHD provides the detailed picture resolution necessary for large 60" diagonal + screen sizes.

Innovative Features
In order to provide consumers with the best possible home theater experience, Toshiba offers unique convenience features such as Channel Browser™, new Favorite Browser and THINC™ (Toshiba Home Interactive Network Connection) home entertainment networking.

Channel Browser lets consumers use a TV "back button," for quick and easy access to recently viewed channels. It displays the five most recently viewed channels on-screen, and this year, even includes thumbnail pictures for each channel. New Favorite Browser allows easy access of up to 32 favorite channels, utilizing the same format as Channel
Browser with channel icons. THINC home entertainment networking allows consumers to connect their TV to their PC and playback MP3 audio files and JPEG pictures using only the TV remote. This unique feature sets Toshiba apart and will provide most consumers with their first step into home entertainment networking.

All of these models also feature a CableCARD™ slot for digital cable compatibility and dual High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI™) digital inputs.

Availability
50HM66 (April 2006); 56HM66 (May 2006)
