Hi, I just joined your group and have found a lot of useful information, thank you.
I travel a lot and wanted my Directv service at my main location, so after a year of using an old, beat up dish, I decided to upgrade my system and get a mover's deal.
I just moved my Directv service from one house to another and had a new dish installed on the new house. My old dish was still working until the move was made, at the original house. It is actually still mounted on the house.
My question is...
Does Directv turn off the satellite transponder? How can I use my 2nd receiver at the other location without having to pay for full service at both houses? How do people use the method for traveling in RVs? I knew of a guy who used his second receiver on his camping trips. He just set up a tripod w/the second dish outside the RV.
Any suggestions?

Welcome to the site !
As long as you have an account and a working recvr, it will work at both locations, just take it with you when you go back to the other place.

Yes, people use them for traveling as well, just like you said, set up a tripod and dial in the dish and your good to go, you just have to remember that your locals will be on a spot beam, so you may move out of your assigned area and lose your locals.

Can Satellite transponders go bad? I have working receivers, but can't get a signal, I get a message "Account Closed" on my DVR receiver, but I also get "searching for satellite" on another receiver I have.
Crazy, could a storm have fried my transponder while I was on vacation?

In order for a storm to fry a transponder it would have to be at 22,300 miles up. :) What dish was installed? Please post the signal strengths for each transponder for each satellite.

"Account closed" can indicated that DirecTV needs to re-authorize the access card in the receiver. You can call them to do this or there is a link on their website for doing it there.

I would think, they think the account is no longer, I don't think you can actually OPEN an account without calling in.

OP,
fyi, your recvr was probably shut down, not a Transponder, if a Transponder was shut off, EVERYONE would know it, that would be a major problem on the Satellite itself. ;)

The "round knob" facing the dish is what's known as an LNB...it converts the high-frequency microwave signal down in to something a bit more managable for use over coax and for amplification purposes...it's a lot easier to amplify a signal at 70mhz than it is at 7000mhz. The old C-Band LNB's used 70mhz as an IF frequency to downstep (I think, i was around 9 when i read how they worked)...i honestly haven't studied (i'm not even sure if this information is out there) how DBS systems work....when things went digital and they created DiSEQc and such, i got confused....i knew how to wire things up to make stuff work....but i never learned the technicals behind it.

O mein gott !

Ddude - you're messed up all frequencies ... :(

DiSEqC actually...

Check Wiki.com for that numbers and correct your post. We shouldn't have it here forever wrong.
