Just got my DirecTV set up today. I ordered two HD DVRs so I can record more than two shows at once. (We had Uverse before and I got spoiled because we could record three or four at the same time.) We only have one TV. Both DVRs are plugged into the one TV - one with HDMI and one with the red, green, blue cables. It all seems to be working fine.
However, when I use the remote it operates both DVRs. So if I try to set up one DVR to record certain shows and the other to record other shows I can't seem to do it. Whatever I set up to record on one DVR sort of gets set up on the other one. I say "sort of" because some of the shows were set up on both, and some of the shows were close but not the same (like a show on the same network, but not the same exact show). Very weird.
This is kind of defeating the purpose of having two DVRs. I want to be able to control them both separately and do that easily. I am pretty sure I can make it work by unplugging one of them and only plugging it in when I need it, but that's going to be a hassle and I'll have to remember when I need it plugged in.
DirecTV called to see how satisfied I was with my install and I told them about this issue, so a guy from the "local office" called and I explained the situation to him. He said I should move one of the DVRs to another location in the room because that way the remote wouldn't be pointing at it. But the install guys told me the remotes can operate the DVRs even through walls, so I don't think moving the DVR a few feet is going to make much difference.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make this work? Thanks for any help.
