Espanyol are unbeaten so far in their three group games, but two successive 1-1 draws, at home against US Città di Palermo and in their most recent match at Brøndby, have meant that the Barcelona-based club have failed to fully build on an impressive opening 1-0 win at FC Lokomotiv Moskva. The Russian team now lead the section.

Maccabi, meanwhile, are searching for the form that took them into the group stage. Paired with FK Partizan in the first round having crushed FK Baskimi 11-0 overall in the second qualifying round, the Israeli side trailed 2-0 after the first leg in Belgrade, but hit back in emphatic fashion in the return.
