Unhappy Homeowner & Installer

Has anybody else dealt with a nazi like home owners association, and how did you deal with it?

Yes. Many times. As soon as I threatened to call the FCC, or in one case when I called the Sheriff, they shut up real quick. HOAs ought to be outlawed. They're a racket and an infringement on private property rights. Grrrrrr... I'm going to stop there before I get all worked up. Very few things anger me like that. I think I'm going to take a few deep breaths and get a cup of tea.

i live in an HOA in when i was in southern cali. my 70 3/4 ton ford 4x4 truck was unable to fit in my garage. was about 2 feet to high to clear. HOA actually had my truck towed from my driveway one night while i slept. after researching the hoa bylaws, i found an exclusive clause to parking vehicles outside. if the vehicle is an "eye sore" it must be hidden in the garage. turns out vehicles registered as classic/antique vehicles with the dmv are expempt in the hoa bylaws. my truck actually had these plates(cost half as much to register). requirements for the plates were must be 30 years of age with matching vin numbers on the engine and on the frame. either way, hoa was required to pay for all towing expenses, and i used a cab for 3 days to take me everywhere, used my credit card and kept records. they had to reimburse me for that. even better, found another by-lay, if anyone on the board is found guilty of mis-apporiation of HOA funds, they will be removed from the board, and lose their right to vote on all future hoa issues. the board considered all the cost required to re-imburese me plus towing expense as this, and removed this doosh from the board. for the next couple weeks i had fun parking my truck in front of his house on purpose.

I like your style!

I can see where you are coming from, especially with HOAs that have control freaks running them (or hassling the board--that happens too). However there can be many advantages to a well-run HOA (with "well-run" being extremely important!). I currently live in a neighborhood with no HOA, and we have several houses with 4 families living in them (it's the only way they can afford a house in California), and 8 cars parked in the driveway and street (I think the garage is used as a living unit in one of them). This makes for a very poor impact on the neighborhood, and it's something that a well-run HOA could help limit.

Municipal codes can do that too. HOAs are nothing more than a racket run by control freaks and busy bodies at best, and at worst, criminals who use powers of foreclosure to steal people's houses. These jerks need to realize PRIVATE PROPERTY IS PRIVATE PROPERTY! Some HOA retard wants to pay half my mortgage, THEN he can tell me what kind of truck to drive and how many begonias to plant. This is why in CA, HOAs are actually detrimental to property value. I've seen many developments with billboards advertising "No HOA." And "Your home is worth more in an HOA free community."

One thing I did mention to customer was to let a dummy dish set on tri pod and not activate just to see repercussions that arise before he activated system. Just a thought!

Tell them to gather a large group of homeowners in the neighborhood that are bent on gutting the HOA from within. Then have people in the group run for the board and get on it, using block voting power from your group. Once in power, they vote to strip away HOA powers. I've known of several HOA's that were actually dissolved in this manner.

Yep. I've helped with one of those HOA coups in the past.

These people are threatening to sue...
They can threaten all they want. I'd say they're bluffing and hoping the threat stops the customer.
... and all kinds of crazy stuff he he goes through with install.
As boba said, this is what the customer needs to worry about. If they (the customer) "wins", they still have to live there and will likely be watched much closer and any tiny infraction of HOA rules, they'll be nailed. Of course, if they don't break any rules, they have nothing to worry about.

Me personally I am 110% country, country is not just a dictionary term it is a way of life for me and thousands of other people. I am not used to this kind of behavior and would not buy into or tolerate this kind of dictatorship period.
I pee in the back yard the front yard the side yard or what ever. I walk from the house to the pool naked and swim no matter what time of day it is. I raise horses who think they are my next of kin. Snakes live in the creek in front of my house by the dozens. I burn wood for a deep bone warming warmth. I go to sleep at night with the sound of crickets, spring peepers, and dozen other sounds of nature every night & god in my heart. There are no restrictions or home owners associations. Take me away from this place and I would die a slow painful death. I would rather die young than to live old and deal with this kind of nonsense.

I'm with ya bro! I feel truly blessed to live where I do and would die if I had to live in a subdivision! BTW, I frequently mark my territory in my yard as well, lol!;)

My previous condo association never took legal action against anyone because the budget had no extra for the legal fees. They would just harass people into compliance or give up.

:up you are a hero to those of us who live with these dooshes :up

I have had my own run ins with HOA's, but lets be fair:
When you decide to buy a home/condo with an HOA, all the RULES are outlined and given to you BEFORE you sign on the dotted line. Problems occur because people DON'T read. Are alot of the rules silly?, probably... but you can really not complain when you are given all the rules in advance.

i moved out of my townhouse 4 years ago, because I had an asswipe neighbor who went nuts when we installed a dish the same way..we were looking for a reason to get out of there, and the harassment that started and never stopped after that fact was the impetus that got us out of there..
I started to take legal action against the HOA for harassment, which caused them to back off, but, after all that, who the hell wants to live there anymore anyways?

HOA rules don't mean squat if they are illegal, which is the case in this situation. They can give them to you in advance, and have you sign on the dotted line, but when push comes to shove the law will win every time.
