Hello again,
I presently own 4 rcvr's.
2800
3800
301
301
Talked to Dish about upgrading to a DVR.
They said I would get either a 522 or a 625.
Upgrade is $6.00 a month for the DVR.
Since it will control 2 tvs I can lower my bill by not needing 4 rcvrs.
I'm thinking of splitting the new DVR to a 3rd tv in the basement. TV2 to 2 tvs and watching the same channel.
Thus lowering my bill even more by eliminating another rcvr.
I think this is possible.
Anyway, my question is... I have a 4 output Legacy LNB on my dish 500 dish.
What LNB will I need for the new DVR rcvr and my 301 rcvr?
thanks,
david

Another thought.
I presently have 4 cables coming from my Legacy lnb.
Will I be able to upgrade the lnb, use one cable and a switch (dp34?) to connect the 625 and 301 rcvrs?
thanks,
david

P.S.
after some more reading it seems I will need a DP LNB and will need 2 cables from the dish to the dp34 switch. Is this correct?

You should be paying $21 for hardware now and after the switch, you'll be paying $20 for hardware and DVR service.

You don't need to concern yourself with the installation details as DISH will send someone out to set it all up.

The DPP44 would be the switch of choice as they wouldn't have to run a second cable to the DVR. A pair of diplexers can be used to send the TV2 signal out on the incoming satellite cable to "distribute" to the now receiverless TV(s).

Harshness,
thank you for reply.
My thinking is $6.00 for the DVR. $6.00 for the 301.
saving $9.00 a month.
am I wrong?
625 for 2 tvs.
mirror off the TV2 for a 3 rd tv.
301 for 4th tv.
thanks,
david

p.s.
should I upgrade to two 625 rcvrs? or 1 625 and a 322 rcvr?

ithought there was a $17/month charge for the dvr now, or is that just the 722 and up?
you did say control 2 tvs so that make me think its the higher fee

let the installer worry about the install

Just got off the phone with Dish and I was quoted $95.00 for installing the new equipment.
Is there any way to get around this charge?
thanks,
david

if you do call, campare everything
programming, fees, cost, ect
you may find dish has more of what you want, or vice versa

also if you tell the csr you are going to switch, they may transfer you to the retention dept and wave the fee
maybe even upgrade the dvr's, and throw in some other stuff
but you will get a new contract, thats what they did to me when i wanted a dvr 2 years ago, no problems with it though

but this last time i just went direct for the whole home dvr option

mdram,
thanks for the reply.
my wife doesn't want to switch as she has her favorite channels memorized.
we have been with Dish for 10 years,4 months, and 1 day.
we own our equipment and only had one rcvr. fail in all that time.
and Dish handled it promptly.
maybe the retention idea will work.
thanks,
david

Have you actually looked at your bill recently? The price on the standard receivers went up to $7 on February 1st, 2010.

I answered your original question with my first reply (as signified by quoting your first question). When you change the question, the answer changes and you end up saving $8/month (because the fee for the remaining 301 will still be $7/month).

Add the service plan and keep it for 151 days and then cancel that will waive the tech fee

Thank you very much for that idea.
I signed up for the plan and the installer will be here Friday with the new equipment.
My wife is so happy to be stepping into the 21st century with a DVR.

Yep. Once you go DVR, you never go back.

Just in case you don't know, since you haven't had a DVR, there are two buttons on the remote that are your friends. Your BEST friends. You'll see a curved arrow clockwise, and another one counterclockwise. These are the skip ahead and skip back buttons, respectively. No more commercials, unless you want to see them.

New equipment was installed Friday.
Jeremy, the installer, was very professional on his install.
Wish I knew the name of the contractor he works for.
I would like to send them an email about how satisfied I am with Jeremy's work.
There is nothing on the paperwork as far as the name of the company.
Tried doing a reverse lookup with the 800 number sticker he put on the remotes.
His shirt name tag said something like "digital dish".
doing a search comes up with a Michigan based company.
and I think one in Millersburg, Ohio.

Thought I would keep this all together.
When my wife records a 9:00 pm program, on the 625, it records to TV2 ( rcvr in dual mode. TV2 is in the bedroom. She goes to the bedroom and wants to watch a different program. Screen comes up and says "you are recording this program, do you want to cancel this recording?"
At the same time I am watching something different on TV1.
Is there a way for her to record and watch a different program at the same time?

Second situation.
The 322 feeds the den and basement TV's.
Basement is TV1 (rarely used). I only watch the den (TV2) for a couple hours each morning.
Each morning TV2 has the screen saver. I press select and it says "please wait". The it goes thru the transponder situation and loads the program download.
I looked for the inactivity screen that our old 301's had but no go.

any suggestions?
thanks, david

The only way the user of TVn can watch a different program than the one being recorded by tuner n, is by watching a previously recorded program.

The 322 problem is a mystery to me. Is TV1 left on all the time? Maybe it's not doing it's nightly update, because it thinks somebody is watching TV1. (I'm speculating.}
