I "think" PFC is a brazillan soccer channel

Right you are:

DirecTV and DISH Network to carry Brazilian all-soccer channel PFC Internacional

October 31, 2006

DirecTV and DISH Network will carry the new Brazilian all-soccer channel PFC Internacional starting January 2007 for the start of the Brazilian State Championship tournaments, according to a report in Multichannel News.

PFC Internacional, which will broadcast in Brazilian Portuguese over 300 live Brazilian soccer matches from 4 major state championships (Carioca, Paulista, Mineiro, Gaucho), the Copa do Brasil, and the Brazilian National Championship (1st and 2nd divisions) each season, is owned and operated by Brazilian media giant Globo.

Pricing for PFC Internacional has not been announced.

They are also supposed to be working on remaping HD channels (such as ESPN, ESPN2 and HBO) to their SD Channel Number.

I understand that work on this could begin today.

Ok HBO is on channel 9440 (or somewhere around there)

Dish has found that many people "Forget" about the HD feed of HBO and when channel surfing will watch HBO on Channel 300 instead.

What this will do is make HBO HD on Channel 300 so that people get the HD version instead. :)

i think they should just put The HD version in with the rest of the HBO"s this "remap" sounds like a mess

Remapping? I must be dense, can you give an example? :)

Remapping is curretly in place with the locals. Right now with no re-mapping, in order for you to view HBO-HD you need to go to channel 9456, with the re-mapping you can simply digit 300 on your remote, and there you go HBO-HD. I think is a great thing. Hope this answer your question:up

I agree. Looks like now I'll have to start using the, "All HD" part of the guide more often since currently I like to quickly flip through the HD channels which are all located together. Not a big deal I guess.

edit: I am assuming they will not remap channels with unique content like FoodHD and Food Network SD?

Yeah, I dont really know how its going to affect my Sage setup, I can just see Zap2it screwing everything up with this (since it wont know if 300 is SD or HD). If I can still tune 9456 I will just do that. I suppose it will stay on both numbers, just like my HD "locals" are in the 6300's and in the normal OTA numbers as well.

For users with HD set-tops, it will be transparent so I'm not sure why a few are confused or concerned about it..... HBO (east) and HBO-HD (east) simulcast the same programming so this is a non-issue.

Initially I thought "what if someone wants to record a program on HBO and HBO-HD that just happen to be at the same time ??". They wouldn't be able to with toggling off re-mapping. They always show the same thing though.

I like the remapping. They will keep the HD channels in the 9400 area, just put them on top of (not literally- they will replace) their corresponding SD channels. They won't do this for FoodHD and HGTVHD because they play different programming.

I have one complaint about re-mapping. If the source isn't HD, I don't want to waste DVR space on the HD channel. For example, WSOP on ESPN and ESPN-HD is standard def. Why waste 5x the space on my DVR just to see the gray ESPN bars on the side?

For me I hope its an option you can turn off.

For example I like to watch Poker on ESPN2, and when I watch it I watch it on the SD channel, because I hate the "HD" sidebars ESPN puts up since the show is not in HD.
