Curious unrelated question, I thought all stations starting with "K" had to be west of the Mississippi?? Is KDKA in Pittsburgh really KDKA?

pittsburgh hd locals, sweet! but let's not get too excited until they are available, dish will tease us for a few months by uplinking them but then will remove the, ask the indianapolis market how they feel. scott, do any of your contacts at dish know when they might be turned on.

There are a few early radio stations that came on the air before "W" was designated for east and "K" for west: KDKA in Pittsburgh (the world's first commercial radio station) and KYW in Philadelphia are two I remember off the top of my head. Apparently these two were permitted to be exceptions to the rule when they got into TV broadcasting.

There are several "W" stations west of the Mississippi as well. I don't have time to look them up, but one is in des Moines, IA and another is in Dallas, TX. There are a few others.

see ya

what ever happened to Euronews Channel, the same thing that happened to INHD and RSN's in HD I supect?
iDoes Euronews still show up on the uplink list?

Unless you saw a report saying it was removed then stuff is still up there....

I checked and these are still up there in engineering mode.

KDKA was WDTV before Dumont sold to Westinghouse (who merged with CBS). They just renamed it KDKA

KYW was a W before being purchased by Westinghouse

WCCO in Minneapolis is the same way....They are west of the Mississippi ...conversely KSTP is based in St Paul. The Mississippi river splits the two cities :)

Here's a kicker for you guys. What if the studio is on the east side of the Mississippi and the tower is on the west side? Should the station be a W or K?

Both Tribune stations

The 2 stations 1 in KTXL & KCPQ are both Tribune stations. sounds more like Tribune is said stick it to me. They want something that maybe D8 is saying maybe on and E8 is saying don/t think so. Or the rumors of sale of stations of Tribune may be a wait and see situation.

Well, I think it goes with the tower. In San Diego, the FOX station is XETV, cuz the tower is in Mexico.

The city of license is in Mexico hence the X :)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XETV

XETV-TV or FOX6 is the Fox television station serving the San Diego market. It is licensed to Tijuana, San Diego's Mexican twin city (hence the Mexican call sign), but its studios and offices are located on Ronson Road in San Diego with audio-only simulcasts on 87.7 FM.

Then there's WWV and WWVB (Colorado) and WWVH (Hawaii). Those are significantly west of the Mississippi River. But the "city of license" (if you want to call it that) is Washington, D.C.

Channel 6 is on 87.7 MHz. They don't simulcast, for analog TV audio is on an FM carrier, and if you had the appropriate tuner you could pick up any stations audio broadcast.

This is why I call wikipedia the Cheez-Whiz of knowledge.
