I was about to buy a trimax finder and came across several other TFT types. Then it dawned on me that I already have a tiny laptop, sure would be nice if there was a decent finder out there that hooked up via USB.

I see there's something called a BIRDOG USB-DW that looks interesting, any other such goodies out there?

I find the Q reading of my Pansat 3500 does a bang up job. Analog meters will show a peak- but it may be not the satellite you're aiming for, it's the next one over. It has a lot of transponders fired up, causing a high reading. The sat you're aiming for with only few transponders in use, won't even be seen by the analog meter. The only useful meter for a particular sat is one that looks for a particular, correctly programmed, transponder - and that's what the FTA receiver is doing with it's Q reading.
The digital, programmable, meters I've seen, cost way more than a FTA DVB-S STB.

I recently got a First Strike meter...great meter at a good price. It became a hassle for me to drag a receiver and a display to the farm, plus a table and having to connect AC to everything. A good meter is more convenient.
