Using a DVD Player with DIRECTV

I have just had Directv installed and I have a DVD player that was and still is hooked up along with my TV. Directv works great but the installer said that the DVD player would still work but I had to go through the menu setup in order to get it to work along side with Directv. My question is How do I use the Menu to get the DVD player to work again? So far I have not been able to get it to work.

Your DVD player needs to be hooked up to another INPUT, on the TV itself or your stereo receiver, as you can only view one input at a time.... then select the correct input either on the TV or stereo receiver however you hooked the dvd player up...
