I'm in need of a medium gain antenna that is VHF Hi only.. If it also has UHF, that's OK too.
Everywhere I look they have JUNK, like the FREETV antenna on TV, or similar.
OR they are 'sold out', 'Discontinued', or prohibitively expensive and/or outrageous shipping.

Here's the only one left in the market that's readily available. I have two of them, and they are pretty good: http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product.aspx?productid=30-2475

They are comparable to the old Antenna Craft Y5-7-13 antenna.

Mcmelectronics also carries many other antennas that are good, at very good prices. This is the only vhf only one.

THANK YOU, Thank you. I'm ordering a couple right NOW!
I really cant believe the Y5 and Y10 713 aren't available.
I ordered only one last time, a couple of years ago, now need two more.
Oh, and I'm kicking myself for not thinking of MCM. :eek I've ordered from them before, but not antennas.

Radio Shack went through a well publicized bankruptcy and cost us a major antenna manufacturer..

But most folks didnt know that AntennaCraft was a RS owned company. I didnt know until the bankruptcy that it was part of Radio Shack

Got me a C490 and a HBU55 for about $5 each
I was told that the store only had the 'force fed' rabbit ear types. Hadn't stocked outdoor types in 'years'.

got a Y5 a couple months ago from Craigslist
That is lucking out.

I should have asked the original question earlier, I'd already ordered some stuff from other sources. I could have gotten it all at MCM, with free shipping. Live and learn. Paying around 26 bucks shipping on the other stuff.

I didn't know that AntennaCraft was owned by Radio Shack. They've sure hidden that fact for a long time. :) I've got the AntennaCraft Y-10-7-13, and I know a lot of them have been sold over the years. It's a good antenna. I wonder why someone didn't buy them out and keep making them? Winegard used to have a 10 element and a 5 element for high VHF, too, but I understand that they've been discontinued as well. It's crazy when so many people are still looking for high VHF antennas.

Mike Kohl has Hi-Band VHF on his web site, I have seen similar request before and often puzzled that Mike’s site is not mentioned.

It appears Mike has other unlisted OTA items.

Speaking of a vhf antenna. where I use to live I have a small uhf that can catch pretty much anything to about 80 miles uhf or vhf (except the low power stations like WBXH 39 and WLFT 30 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana but the rest I can get easily)

I am looking for a new vhf because my rca 3036 just aint what I thought it was. I was thinking about the 8200 one from solid signal.

Couple of the big antenna's say up to 100 miles...

note the bolded....and also lots of antennas like to give these crazy amounts (150 mile)...yeah sure
It all depends on alot of factors..mainly height, terrain, station power

sign up for their deal of the day emails and right now its at the best price it will be
http://www.solidsignal.com/Deal-Of-The-Day.asp
Yeah i know about those foolish 150 mile ones. I can say this much that small one I have on the ex's house it's legit it'll get at least 80. That deal of the day I already seen that one and it's one I may purchase if the price stays that way for a little while. As for terrain, we're as flat as a board. As for antenna height Lafayette/BR/Lake Charles/KALB stick height runs over 1560 feet on most of them. As for station power that might be the issue for me, remember I'm a little farther down from where I use to live, Thanks.

one other factor too is antenna direction. If they have more signal pointed in one direction versus another that will hinder reception the further away you are

Here are a couple maps of my local stations. Both are same power and height is within 100 feet
KSTC 45 is basically omni directional
http://rabbitears.info/contour.php?appid=1315197&map=Y

but WUCW CW23 has a different pattern...just a smnidge but as you can see the further north you go it isnt as good
http://rabbitears.info/contour.php?appid=1118939&map=Y

That is why when I lived at the lake house (top of the page on there you see the blue lake. Was north of there) KSTC came in almost all the time yet WUCW rarely did

I have the yagi end pointing to the direction of the Baton Rouge ABC station but I can get that and KPLC good (eventhough the other end is facing KPLC). Before the 8 bay was purchased I could get WVLA in any direction. IDK if it feeds off the KADN transmitter but it's the easiest stations I can get outside the Lafayette Market.

This is the subchannel of KADN that went NBC (for some strange reason the MNTV out of Baton Rouge has the same boundaries)http://www.rabbitears.info/contour.php?appid=1502551

Notice the relationship (WBXH shape)http://www.rabbitears.info/contour.php?appid=1656794

KATC has a good range, of course with it being in the top 10 in height nationally amongst tv transmitters. http://www.rabbitears.info/contour.php?appid=1218402

WVLA out of the Baton Rouge Market: http://www.rabbitears.info/contour.php?appid=1199664 I live just inside the red line off La 35, North of Interstate 10 in Rayne. The contour shape is looks like those spurs that circle around a major city.

WBRZ Baton Rouge: Like the way this is shaped especially how it curves a good bit west of lafayette......Can't beat the 24 hour .2 news and .3 weather. http://www.rabbitears.info/contour.php?appid=1424285

KLFY: pretty much the same as KATC http://www.rabbitears.info/contour.php?appid=1316034

KLWB: Notice it's almost similar to KLAF's contour. Extends a good way eastward. Notice the range is well into Baton Rouge. Which is good they can get H&I.
http://www.rabbitears.info/contour.php?appid=1318335

KDCG: for a lp station it has farther reach than some and well being on 50.2 does'nt hurt neither. http://www.rabbitears.info/contour.php?appid=1646895

KXKW: i would have expected this to be a full power station and the contour of this goes as far as KDCG. This is the Antenna TV station http://www.rabbitears.info/contour.php?appid=1302261

WAFB: Never could get this one that well (even when i was living in the trailer 20 miles east) Wish the MNTV ota would feed off this....Maybe its because I'm 10 miles oustide the red contour line. The tower is 1676 feet tall. Maybe if the transmitter was across the river around Plaquemine I'd be in good shape. However another stations that has a good range....http://www.rabbitears.info/contour.php?appid=1318609

Last but not least our NBC from the West: Great Range Reception. Just hope lil sister escape launches on with Grit (Big Brother is boring, lil sister got some edge of your seat shows) When I was in Carencro that lil vhf I had (the yagi being pointed east) could get this well. http://www.rabbitears.info/contour.php?appid=1345587

Forgot two from central louisiana . The 41 is owned by the same people that lost their cw to katc (KLWB) and 5 was once my old wrestling station when it was analog back before we had cable

http://rabbitears.info/contour.php?appid=1336647
http://rabbitears.info/contour.php?appid=1333122 (I'm a good way inside the red contour boundary on KALB, it also has the cbs subchannel) tower is 1578 so that is an advantage as for reception. The 8bay comes in real handy as for reception.

Hum WUCW's shape has a similar relationship to KLAF and WBXH. I see the lake. KSTC is similar to KATC and KLFY as for the contour shape...

Most of the Minneapolis full power station are non directional so they throw out same power in all directions. WUCW is the oddball
