Go to www.satbiznews.com
look at the right column the one that says Satellite Business News Fax Update

For the day of Wednesday February 1st. One byline reads:

"NEWS & NOTES: Cablevision’s board of directors met Monday and could shut the Voom service down as early as late this week"

Now if anyone subscribes it would be great to get the whole story. But these people have had the inside story for the entire ride of VOOM.

Now this seems like a projection that may be the earliest possible. But it sounds like Cablevision wants this thing shut down before they report quarterly results next week. I doubt they would shut it down before the Superbowl, but you never know.

Ah, another doom's date to add to my list. Should we say Friday, Saturday or Sunday... Let's see where this one ends because 1/31 was not, 2/1 was not it. Let's wait and see. Oh yes, someone stated by Superbowl, it will be gone too? I am keeping that one too and it looks like this one also matches the superbowl prediction.

You know I check satbiznews website every monday, wednesday and friday (those are the only days they give a sneak peek of the current fax headlines) and got to say that these guys have a good insight as to what is happening.

Click on their link of past fax headlines and look at all the developments of this Voom/Cablevision/Dolan. If you compare dates of their postings to the dates of the postings on this forum you will see they have the scoop very often.

If you sit down and read the headlines for example around the time of CES you will see the funding issues evolve and the scramble for bankers while everyone on satguys is concentrated on the VOOM DVR.

Personally I have no idea.

But what this does show is that there WAS a board meeting yesterday. It also shows they are looking to wrap Voom up quickly not months.

I predicted after the superbowl is when voom is going to pull the plug. sean you want to start taking bets...LOL

There was a meeting on Monday (News to the majority here but not others). I knew about that as well on Monday. However, no one could confirm any information from the meeting. There's more that the abstract does not show and I don't want to post unless I hear more information. Unless I can see more on what they are basing their information, I am not readily to say yes there will be a shutdown before 2/6. I could be wrong as well but let's see what happens. 2/6 is not too far away.

Nope, I do not want to bet. But you will be the first one to win the Voom Doom Predictions in this thread.

Any company the size of Cablevision does not just pull the plug and say "surprise!!!" There would be a proper mail or public notice of a given date before the plug would be pulled by any corporation on a service related business. Sean knows that and why he, in his own way, is mocking some who do not seem to have common sense. My words not his.

I am glad that none of you were my heart surgeon or the other specialist I need to keep me alive. You would have written me off 3 years ago and I would be underground enjoying HDTV from another view.

I already ordered my coffin with a 20" 16x9 LCD installed in the lid above my head and a UPS power system and VOOM STB beside my feet. Oh and yes, the Voom SAT dish will be attached to the top of my tombstone.

PS- don't forget to put the VOOM remote in my hand, i don't want to have to change channels with my toes, LOL!!!!

voom advert/email

I got an email from voom earlier today that announced that the deadline to get 3 rooms installed will end on March 1st.

Anyway, I seriously doubt that voom will pull the plug on us. I mean it does say that they will help us to transition in the sec filing so I would think that if they just pull the plug before the sale to echostar is complete that there could be financal reprocutions from the fcc and etc...

Just my 2cents,
Danielle

First Post but i have been lurking awhile. Anyways I for one have heard just about enough of Voom doom and gloom. Does anyone really think that Charles Dolan Started Voom Just to throw away a few Billion? Do you really think that He was so shortsighted as to expect Voom to turn profits in this short amount of time? HBO lost Money for how many Yrs? His Son will outsmart him? I say it won't happen and Voom isn't going anywhere except onwards and upwards. GO VOOM

Welcome to the forum, racer13!

I'm a very happy Voom customer, and obviously hope they survive. I have never been a customer of any other satellite company, and have nothing against any of them.

Many of the Voom bashers out there place major importance in the fact that Voom is losing money - they certainly aren't the only ones. Not trying to bash in any way, just posting actual results:

DirectTV results

Jan 27 2005 DirecTV (DTV: news, chart, profile) posted a fourth-quarter loss of $283 million, or 20 cents a share, compared with a loss of $310 million, or 22 cents a share in the same period a year ago.

Feb 6th, 6:29pm ET. Without warning (other than this post).

I wonder if they have set up their receivers to rely on OTA PSIP yet? Once the satellite goes silent, the EPG would need a source.

I hope I'm wrong.

OMG!!! Direct must be NEXT then!!!

;) Great post.
Btw...as I pointed out somewhere else here, Delta lost $5B...and yes, that's BILLION, with a "B", last quarter. They'll probably pull the plug too, while they have aircraft in the air ;)

Floundering companies

My wife has had the misfortune of working at failing companies and being laid off twice. The first time was a total surprise to everyone - one day they suddenly could get no financing. The other company died over a two year period, had several layoffs, was selling things, was looking for a white night - and to the end there were people saying they were going to make it and citing various company functions which they thought indicated life. Unfortunately it was on life support - and failed suddenly when the plug was pulled. Same thing here (in my opinion) - everything will run as normal in case there is a white knight, but it will be a goner the minute they figure out that one is not forthcoming...

I have been Vooming since last May and it is great.
I am enjoying it for as long as it lasts, but this nearly 2 week death watch of checking all the posts on the related boards is getting to be a bit much.
It is almost to the point where I am ready for the patient to die so I can move on to whatever is next and I don't really know what that may be. Voom was and is my first satellite provider, so I don't know if I will go that route or back to cable with its paltry hdtv offerings.
