After the last software upgrade I would sometimes get no video when I
turned the box on and had to re-boot. This didn't start happening
immediately after the download, but two weeks or so afterwards. This
appears solved now that I changed the mode to 1080i from native which
gave me the problems.

But now I am experiencing frequent snowing, just about every time I
change channels and occassionally when changing channels I also lose
the audio and have to change channels and back again to get it to
work. Then it works okay. But because of the offensive commercials,
frequent channel changing is required, which makes this very annoying.

Voom is certainly the way to go for HD, but these problems are one
reason I do not recommend this service yet to anyone asking about it.

Are you sure that you are 1080i mode? I think that problem exists in
480... Go to the Installation Wizard and make sure that it indicates
1080i. Also, what type of monitor do you have?

[VOOM] Re: Software Issues That Just Don't Go Away....

The set is the Sony KF60WE610, I am using DVI. I am experiencing
snow for 5-15 seconds immediately after a channel change in all
modes. It doesn't happen again unless I change the channel.

I have recently been running in what I believe was 1080i mode, top
light only blinking on. This solved the problem of no video, sound
only at turn on, requiring a re-boot, that was happening at native
mode.

The only thing unusual about the hookup is that I also have composite
(RCA) to my VCR, which doesn't work for taping, and according to
VOOM, won't. It does feed a low definition signal which is watchable
into Line 2 of the VCR, but when taping, I get sound, but no video.
This is with the box set at both 480i and native.

I don't think the red button is really affecting the high definition
picture at all on this set, at least I can't tell the difference. It
does affect the ability of the TV's display mode (normal, full zoom,
wide zoom, etc), the set is locked on "FULL" at most modes, frees up
the adjustment at one of the modes, but I can't remember which.
Regardless, the picture is fine in that it is sized properly not at
the "FULL" mode the TV says it is outputing which would give a
cropped picture.

I remember that immediately after the download, for several days, the
box worked perfectly, no problems whatsoever. It is possible that
things began to go wrong after I performed a channel scan for OTA,
because I didn't do it for several days after, but I can't say for
sure. I have not made any adjustments on the STB or the TV that
could have played a part.

I guess I need to find a user group specific to VOOM and the Grand
Wega, do you know of any?

I don't think you need to have the box set to 480i for your VCR to work, by default, Svideo, RCA, and COAX transmit at 480i on the box, why don't you just use a patch coax anyway for your VCR? Also the snow happens to me at times and I think it's DVI/TV handshake problem when switching channels real fast. If I switch channels again it goes away. It also isn't a very persistent thing. Is your DVI cable bent or in the midst of all the power cables? Is it tied in tied to the STB and TV? It may seem stupid but it could be these things.
