How can I connect a second Dish Receiver?

I have a Dish 500 with a 811. I also have an older model dish receiver that I got when I first signed up for Dish about four years ago.

How do I go about hooking up the second receiver?

Do I run a second cable from the Dish? Or can I just split the Dish cable coming into the house?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

You cannot split the cable coming into the house for the second receiver so you would have to run a seperate line.

Please go to Menu 6,1,1 and run a switch test then report the results so that we know what you have for electronics at the dish. Also what model is the receiver that you want to add, there is a plate on the back of the receiver with model#.

The receiver is a 4900.

The dish test says it is a "500 Twin".

Switch Input
Input ----1---1---2---2
Satellite 119 119 110 110
Polarity odd even odd even

The 500 Twin is a Legacy LNB and is compatible with the Legacy 4900 receiver so all you will need is a new cable run from the dish to the location of the 4900.
