Way to go NHL

Please see post 33 in Stanley Cup champs .....

I hope the series is a good one, but I don't see it going past 6 tops, and not in the Wings favor.

Wings have forgot how to score on the PP so the opposing teams can do whatever they want.
Theres no more leadership no more urgency, the team is a shell of what it once was.

Jimbo

Well Jimbo, at least nobody can accuse you of being a fanboy!

I'm a little confused by this team. Just don't know which team is coming out to play, The physical team that beat Calgary, or the passive one that came out in the first period against SJ. I've already went on record about the power play. The bottom line of game one was, outside of the first period last game (2 goals 24 seconds apart) they managed to hold SJ to 19 shots, while playing passively. If they play like they did in the wins over Calgary, I thnk this team may just surprise you. I'm not throwing in the towel just yet. I believe this is a better team than last year's. We are in the second round, aren't we? That's already an improvement over the last couple of seasons.

Actually I was rather impressed by the Wings Penalty Kill in game 2, they were aggressive and did not let them get set up quickly.... also the way they didn't let SJ get anything going in the last 2 minutes after Pavel scored.

They key is winning the face offs which the team use to dominate in. Now they are slightly above avaerage.

We might not be seeing the physical side due to SJ 's quickness....

Overall if they are agressive they are good enough to play with anyone, but they don't always play that way.

Like you said, you don't know which team is going to show up from day to day.

Lack of HD again

I still don't understand how the NHL can be in it's Conference finals and NOT be in HD.

Last nights game was on VS (Wings vs Ducks), but not in HD, but todays Sabre's Sen's game will be....

WHY ???? Come on NHL get your act together, ALL playoff games should be in HD and avaialble to all customers.

Looks like game two will be in HD, but come on, down to the final 4 teams and still no love for the HD'ers.....

Unfortunatly, the games are no longer available on the local FSN in HD, only thru the 1st two rounds.

Didn't the NHL sign a 2 year agreement with VS originally? Isn't that contract due to expire at the end of this year ?
Hopefully Bettman will sucsessfully find a way to put the NHL on TV (more than one game a day twice a week would be nice).
Although I doubt that Bettman woud move the NHL at this point, perticularly seeing that ESPN is pretty booked for this time frame (NHL season) with them having the NBA now.

on a different note, I wonder if the Tigers will be blacked out locally on ESPN HD Sunday night ?
Considering that I do not see it available anywhere locally, maybe not.

Jimbo, I thought you had D*...I didn't know Versus HD was available at this time? Last night I watched the Ducks vs. Wings games in glorious HD on TSNHD (Star Choice). I currently have Dish Network DVR Advantage (AT200) and was contemplating upgrading to AT500 so I could receive Versus and record it to my Dish HD DVR. The Versus games are supposed to be simulcast in HD on the NHLHD channel. However, this would have been a waste of money from what I have read.

If you're into Hockey, the *C "Essentials" package will get you a lot of action (to include International & college, and much better announcers and analysts) on CBCHD and TSNHD. It costs $35 a month for stand-alone HD receiver. As an added bonus, I get to follow all the out-of-market NFL games being carried on the Detroit and Seattle locals (a few other SD games on Global and Buffalo locals), a couple Wolverine games that aren't carried on National TV (obviously not your cup of tea), and ad hoc Tigers, Pistons, etc., games along the way. Personally, I can justify the monthly subscription cost since I hate being blacked-out and subscribing to Center Ice, Sunday Ticket, ESPN GamePlan, would be too expensive and a waste of money since I only care about my teams.

I do have D*
I am watching the Sabres and Sens in HD on VS right now, so that answers that question.
Why is it the Wings are not shown in HD I don't know, at least on VS thru D*.
It could be a VS vs D* conflict, seeing VS is owned by evil Comcast.

what I find strange about the nhl is that in the last few years the teams that have won the cup are the teams that are not even supposed to make the playoffs and also in the markets where most people don't care if the team exists or just folds

There is a lot of parity in the NHL these days. The difference from top to bottom is very thin. Maybe the salary cap is helping.

Sure looks like it is.

Now if we can get baseball to do the same thing there might be more parity there too.

We don't need a salary cap in baseball. It's more fun watching the smoke coming out of Steinbrenners ears, watching his Yankees and their 190M payroll play.500 ball.
