I read a while back that LIN was looking into selling some of their stations. Has anyone heard any news of them selling WTNH - New Haven? Coming from Comcast - it is frustrating to not have all the locals in HD. How is that a cheap-ass company like Comcast can come to an agreement with LIN? Does anyone know how these discussions are going? Does DTV actually contact them on a regular basis? Is there any hope at all that they will ever come to an agreement? They are only losing out since my family won't watch the SD feed.

I can't answer most of your questions, but I also have a LIN station that I don't get in HD from D* (WISH - CBS). I sent them an email asking about it and I got a generic "we want to be on there but the negotiations are taking longer than we thought" email that, to me, basically said, "we don't care," even after I told them the same thing: I will do everything in my power to avoid watching your station in SD.

I finally gave up and went OTA when I realized the deal wasn't going to be done by football season and I would be watching the Colts in SD.

Where are you in CT? WTNH has a strong signal and could likely be picked up with an ota antenna.

Stonington - about 8 miles from the casino's. I researched the OTA option and it didn't look too promising. I am about 50-60 miles from the tower. I have no interest in putting a huge antennae on my roof. I have my dish discreetly placed on the backside of my property mounted on a pole behind some tall trees.

LIN's also being jerks with cable about retransmission rights, Cable One, LIN Continue Retransmission Negotiations - 12/14/2007 6:31:00 AM - Multichannel News . Of course it's all about the $'s, "He emphasized that cash compensation for retransmission consent is an “essential part of broadcasters’ future. Most cable operators understand that.” He declined to comment on how much compensation LIN was seeking for KASA-TV or what terms were reached with Cable One for KRQE."

Too bad Uncle Sam can't tell LIN that they need to pay for the right to use the public airwaves when their license comes up for renewal at their stations.

You're in a tough spot! Even WLNE is 40 miles from you! You MIGHT be able to get them with an outside antenna. You never know until you try! Good luck!

I live in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Our FOX affliate WLUK is owned by LIN TV. I have tried everything I can think of to get my FOX HD feed via satellite. I have called the VP of the WLUK, called LIN public relations, called DirecTV to request the NY HD FOX feed. All have failed.

You would think LIN would want to sign with DTV now that they are the leader in HD programming. From what I understand, its a difference of a few cents.

Where are we the customer to turn? How to we appeal the DNS denial. WLUK told me right out that they would not grant me permission so don't bother trying. This is a joke.

Question: I get my WLUK in SD right now. When analog goes away in 2009 will I loose that channel too from DTV in SD as LIN won't let DTV carrey its digital signal?

I dont blame Lin anymore for Norfolk DMA43 still not having HDLIL on D*. Every other provider around here has come to terms with them. Both Cable and FIOS carry all HDLILs here. But D* still can't get the job done.

Maybe they were willing to pay the ransom to get LIN locals and now trying to short the NFL Network to make up the diff?

This may help you understand what is going on with retransmission rights. http://www.satelliteguys.us/latest-headlines/125350-sinclair-counts-retrans-rewards.html#post1238431

Sinclair’s success in increasing its retransmision revenue bodes well for other larger programming groups — LIN TV and Hearst-Argyle Television all were on track to exceed their estimates for retrans cash in 2007. Both are slated to release their fourth-quarter results at the end of the month.

LIN also is in the middle of a retransmission-consent fight with Suddenlink Communications in Albuquerque, N.M. and Austin, Texas.

Cox is supposed to be adding a good group of HD channels in Va end of Feb. If they do, I think Ill be swapping over to Cox in April. Gotta have HD Locals for the WAF and Im tired of dealing with antennas.

Interesting, I thought local broadcasters were mainly interested in cable and satellite transmissions these days. I thought I read somewhere one time that broadcasting over antenna helped them stay on local cable carriers.
