How is my breaktime and lunchtime "the company DIME?" Boy, you must really work for slavedrivers! Sorry, that's MY time, and I can use it to surf if I want--the internet connection is on and paid for whether I use it or not.

That avatar is/was so non-offensive this thread grows even funnier, now we have switched gears trying to use WORK as an excuse.

What's non-offensive to you obviously was offensive or insulting to some others. I didn't say anything until the obviously slanted poll was put up. If no input is wanted, then don't ask. If I'm insulted enough, I'll let Scott know. As it was, I didn't like it, but figured it would only last through the holiday season and then would be gone anyway. I try to pick my battles carefully and wouldn't bother with this one unless it continued or increased.

Scott has to remember that there are not only males viewing this site, despite one poster's protest that it (the poll?) was only for men.

Actually it's part of the service we already paid for. Because we outsourced it, we actually saved money on IT staff. They can work on other things now.

The PC, the connection to the net, the IT help to maintain it all, the work to maintain the blacklist - making sure "you people" don't stumble into something, fighting viral & worm attacks thanks to your uneducated surfing, etc. It all adds up. People that do not know anything past their own job, always forget about the behind the scenes and what all goes on when they are off the clock. Hilarious, this thread really has died. The lack of common sense in the US (yes I live here too) is so funny. We all want this idiot proofed for personal use.

No, I said "pornography", as in "some people may call it, quote, pornography, un-quote." We are talking about the animated GIF of the Santa's Helpers, right? That's all I've seen that someone might find offensive.

Take my current avatar: Some might be offended by the immature bathroom humor, others might see it as humorous, more will see it and not even notice. I'll keep it up until it snows here again since all our Christmas snow has melted.

You are correct! I am an activist - just like Martin Luther King, Abraham Lincoln, etc. I teach my children and students to stand up for what they believe in. Our world would never progress if people did not take a stand for their convictions. I stated my beliefs in a respectful manner being careful to state they were MY opinions. I did not degrade anyone else in the process. Nor did I ask for the avatar to be pulled in any of my posts. I have the right to state my opinion which is what I did. I was surprised the avatar was pulled, but I stand behind my belief that it is not appropriate for this web site. For other web sites, there is nothing wrong with it.

I did not realize that you could "turn off" the avatars. If I did, I would have taken that option.

I wish more people realized what the support services do. So many times we get accussed of doing nothing cause their PC's "are working fine, no problems whatsoever"

Believe me, I am not saying where I work is a freaking animal house of internet actvivity. All I am saying is, a little personal web access seems to recharge people a bit.
Now everyone is heavily restricted yes, but they can read the news or check personal email on their breaks. Only a priveledged few can DL or UL anything through the network. The worst is the pesonal email, but since it is only web based that is allowed and most webmail check their stuff already for baddies and we restrict pretty much everyone from installing or running programs that are not on the approved Group Policy list we have in my 3 years at my site, never had one malicious code problem.

I was gonna head off a while ago, but this got even more interesting.

Since you don't know my job, just know that I do have the authority to use my "off" time to use the web and my preference is to not view avatars like the subject one. Just my preference, which was solicited by the poll.

Since work has been brought up, I will say that the avatar in question would be in violation of our Sexual Harassment Policies. Knowingly bringing in such material (if viewed by someone else who wanted to get me in trouble) could lead to disciplinary action, up to termination. It's nice to know that if I ever need to, I can turn off the avatars while away from home.

As much as I enjoyed Puro's avatars I have to side with the moral majority on this one, because the site is open to people of all ages and its implied format is for television and that the only place on the site that there is a warning wich is the backroom that implies to anyone visiting that they should expect to find the site to be safe for any age and any enviroment that they are in. I'm still on the fence as to what effects these images have on our society as a whole considering that countries outside of the united states seem to treat partial and or full nudity in public forums as every day aspects of life while we still cling archaic puritan idea's from our own dark ages.

My husband mentioned the photos to me. If he were into self-preservation, he would be on this thread defending me. He is not. He understands that I am able to think for myself and this is my battle.
